2013 has certainly been an eventful year for Lamar Odom, and not necessarily in a good way. We’ve seen some of the drama unfold on Keeping Up With the Kardashians as L’s wife Khloe Kardashian dealt with his increasingly bizarre behavior, but the really heavy stuff – the reported drugs and womanizing – didn’t come until after shooting had wrapped. These days, however, the former NBA star seems to be on a better path, and now there’s one more thing Lamar can finally put behind him – that pesky DUI case from last August…provided he can adhere to the rules of his plea agreement, of course.
Lamar’s attorney was in a Van Nuys, California Superior Court today, where he appeared on Lamar’s behalf to strike a deal with prosecutors. After entering a no contest plea, Khloe’s hubby has agreed to attend a 3-month alcohol education program AND do 3 years of probation. Lamar will also have to pay around $1,800 in fines, and his license remains suspended.
The hearing was a result of Lamar’s DUI arrest back in August, when California Highway Patrol pulled him over for driving too slow and swerving on the 101. When cops pulled the basketballer over, he failed field sobriety tests and would not agree to a blood alcohol test. So let’s see, driving slowly but erratically, failing to walk a straight line and then telling the highway patrol ‘hell no’ about their tests? That sounds like 3 REALLY good ways to piss off the cops, who frankly don’t give an eff if you’re married to a Kardashian.
These days, however, Lamar Odom appears to be getting his life back on track. He’s been practicing with the Los Angeles Clippers in hopes of returning to the NBA, and he’s been spotted out and about in LA looking and acting like a drug-free individual. As for his marriage to Khloe Kardashian, time will tell. While the two aren’t acting like a happily married couple, they have been talking and Khloe has repeatedly indicated that she’s not giving up on her marriage.
The next season of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, airing in January, will focus extensively on Khloe and Lamar’s marital woes – and what’s behind them. Until then, let’s hope Lamar takes his probation seriously and stays out of trouble.
What do you think about Lamar Odom’s plea bargain? Was it fair? Will be able to stick to it? Tell us in the comments!
