Looks like Mackenzie Douthit’s days as a reality star are over, as MTV has confirmed that a Teen Mom 3 spin-off centered on the 19-year old is not going to happen. With the series being canceled after just one season, some fans were hopeful that Mackenzie would get her own show, especially now that she’s married and has another baby on the way. However, MTV execs said, “nope” and that was that.
The series, which starred Mackenzie, Alexandria Sekella, Briana Dejesus and Katie Yeager, chronicled the lives of the young mothers as they dealt with the stresses of parenting and relationships while still trying to enjoy their youth. The Teen Mom franchise has been wildly popular in the past, but fans didn’t respond as well to this series, citing the lack of drama as compared to previous seasons – you know, the ones starring Amber Portwood and Farrah Abraham, two of the biggest drama queens in MTV history.
In spite of the lack of viewer interest, Mackenzie was able to grab the attention of fans and quickly became the central cast member. After the show was done filming, she and longtime boyfriend Josh McKee, parents to son Gannon, announced they were expecting another baby and got married in a fairytale wedding.
All of these exciting changes in Mackenzie’s life had some fans hopeful that MTV would create another series centered around the young family, but alas, it is not to be. In a statement to Us Weekly, the network said there was “no truth” behind the rumors, quashing all hope for the spin-off.
Fans of the show aren’t the only ones disappointed in the news, either. On Dec. 7, Mackenzie’s mom tweeted,”I’m very sad MTV chose to cancel. I wanted to keep sharing my faith on TV. And Mack wanted to share her struggles with diabetes. So sad…”
So what do you think? Did Mackenzie Douthit deserve her own spin-off? Tell us in the comments!
