Is the clock winding down for Keeping Up With the Kardashians? Some TV insiders seem to think so, now that E! has lined up a new series featuring a new group of filthy rich 20-somethings. The show, which will be called Rich Kids of Beverly Hills will debut in January, chronicling the expensive and crazy lives of some of the most extravagant one percenters in SoCal. Thanks E!, because that is exactly what I needed to see – another group of spoiled rotten millennials who spend more money on manicures than I do on my car payment.
Rich Kids is based off the Tumblr feed #richkidsofinstagram, which features a bunch of photos of insanely wealthy young people posing with their designer clothes, yachts and Rolls Royces. While E! says that new series is not based on the blog, the show will include some familiar faces. There’s Dorothy Wang, daughter to a billionaire CEO, blogger Morgan Stewart and her boyfriend and real estate exec Brendan Fitzpatrick, singer Johnny Drubel and also Roxie Sowlaty, an interior designer. Oh, and let’s not forget E.J. Johnson, the flamboyant big spending son of the legendary Magic Johnson. The show will follow their lives as they make the kinds of decisions that only the extremely wealthy have to make – like what kind of furniture to buy on a $500,000 budget.
While E! has said that Keeping Up With the Kardashians has definitely not reached the end of its shelf life, some believe that Rich Kids is being set up to succeed Kim Kardashian’s hit show. A source told Page Six that, “The Kardashians are expensive to produce and their audience appeal is waning. ‘Rich Kids’ are a sexier bunch.” However, it is currently E!’s most popular series, so I supposed only time will tell if the Rich Kids can top the Kardashians.
What do you think? Will you be tuning it to watch Rich Kids of Beverly Hills, or will you still be Keeping Up with the Kardashians? Let us know in the comments!
