Phil Robertson Suspended From Duck Dynasty After Anti-Gay Remarks

December 19, 2013 06:38 AM by Lisa Princ

Phil Robertson is known for his tell it like it is personality (and his awesome beard, of course) on Duck Dynasty, but did the family patriarch take that too far recently? A&E thinks so, as Robertson made some anti-gay remarks in GQ recently, and he has now been suspended from the hit show indefinitely, leaving fans not so happy, happy, happy!

We can’t say that we did not see this coming. While the Robertson family is known for their Christian beliefs, Phil and Kay also seem to be very “old school” as well, so we knew that sooner or later, Phil was bound to offend someone with his opinions. And he did just that in an interview with GQ Magazine recently, when he said: “It seems like, to me, a vagina — as a man — would be more desirable than a man’s anus, that’s just me.” When asked for his opinion of what he felt was sinful, Phil replied: “Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.” But Robertson also made it clear that it’s not his job to judge anyone: “We never, ever judge someone on who’s going to heaven, hell. That’s the Almighty’s job. We just love ‘em, give ‘em the good news about Jesus – whether they’re homosexuals, drunks, terrorists,” he went on to add.

Needless to say, the gay and lesbian community as well as many other folks were offended by Robertson’s remarks, and it wasn’t long after the interview hit the web, that GLAAD responded to the comments. “Phil and his family claim to be Christian, but Phil’s lies about an entire community fly in the face of what true Christians believe,” GLAAD rep Wilson Cruz said in a statement. However, after hearing the backlash over his interview, Phil Robertson explained to People Magazine that despite his personal beliefs: “I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity.”

But by this point, it was too little too late for Phil Robertson. A&E revealed in a statement that Phil has been suspended from further taping of Duck Dynasty. “We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson’s comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and not reflected in the series Duck Dynasty. His personal views in no way reflect those of A&E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community. The network has placed Phil under hiatus from filming indefinitely,” the statement read.

While we can definitely see why Phil’s comments could be considered offensive, what happened to freedom of speech? It’s his opinion, is he not entitled to an opinion like the rest of us? And if Robertson can be suspended for these remarks, why on earth are the Kardashians still on the air? After all, Scott Disick and Kanye West run their mouths with offensive remarks all the time!

I don’t know about you, but I certainly can’t wait to see how Willie, Jase, Si, and the rest of the gang respond to this.

What do you think of Phil Robertson’s comments? Was A&E correct to suspend him? We know you have an opinion and we want to hear from you! Sound off in the comments section below!

I’ll tell you why Phil is banned an Kanye gets by with it.And no one will ilike it it but its true.MONEY AND THE FACT HE IS BLACK.No A&E was not right in what they done, but if you support sin then sin get to make the decisions.Homosexuality is a sin, period. And guess what ,you don’t have to agree with the truth for it to be the truth.THE TRUTH WILL STAND WHEN THE WORLD IS ON FIRE.WHICH MAY BE VERY SOON.

I feel that A&E was very wrong in their decision. We have freedom of speech and religion. The network has the right to their opinion and so does Phil. Once the contract is over, I think the Robertson’s should find a different network.

I don’t understand why Phil Robertson is being singled out for saying what he BELIEVES. Miley Cyrus can ride naked on a wrecking ball and she is made popular. So why is he being singled out? And barred from HIS show making a big mistake!! I can almost bet the producers of the show are going to get a lot of backlash from this.Hearing me being one!!! BUT then again I guess ANY ONE HAVING A RELATION WITH GOD DOEN’T COUNT RIGHT!!
    Disgusting !!!

Awful awful awful. What they did to him should result in a law suit. So he basically said he prefers vagina over anus..duh…he is not homosexual. So, doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that out. He was asked what is sinful he said homosexuality..it is his RELIGION!!! He then went to say he will never disrespect anyone for being different. He was set up! You know that family will stick together and walk out together. They made their money they don’t need TV money. Phil…you know now how TV works, but you dance with the devil you will get burned. Hope this all blows over.

It’s b/c he’s white. Point blank. We ARE the minority now. We are not allowed to have ANYTHING anymore. Why is it so surprising that we now are no longer allowed to even have an opinion??? He was asked a question & gave an honest answer with out hate or malice. Being condemned for not giving the answer that other people want to hear. These days u can’t really be true to yourself & have any kind of a real opinion for fear of offending some one.

10 years ago gays were in the closet and we and freedom of speach. Now freedom of speach is in the closet and the gays(2% of the population)have a community that has more power the the majority.

I’m a married 66 year old male Marine Vietnam Veteran. I believe in God but I have several ex-wives & former girl friends that agree that I’m a Lesbien because I lick/like women so much!!!
I believe A&E are going to regret their mistake firing Phil!!!
Freedom of Speach is protected by our constitution!!

We do NOT live in nazi Germany. We CAN voice our own opinions in public and not be punished for it. We have amendments that are supposed to be enforcing that. We do not live in some country that forbids freedom of speech. If the glbt community can have the freedom to live the way they want to why then can we not? That’s some BS right there. If you are so worried about public opinion maybe you should actually listen to what people are SAYING.

Yes, he has freedom of speech, but A&E also have the right to fire him.

Incredible….why are they so upset about Phil’s comments…maybe because they’re embarrassed about their lifestyle? Otherwise it wouldn’t bother them what people say. A&E – big mistake.

A & E killed the best show on TV. I hope the family all walk out, love that show. Does anyone read or believe in the bible, it very plainly says that god is against two men or two women having sexual relations… Folks all you need to do is read it.

Missing the point. . . . He can have all the “beliefs” he wants. . . he obviously SIGNED a contract NOT to spew his beliefs all over, thus he is suspended. Should of read his contract and kept his mouth SHUT! VERY IGNORANT as he caused his OWN problem! Don’t know why people can’t SEE that fact! He also is very ignorant about humanity! He should READ his BIBLE a little closer, as GOD would not settle for his comments! I can’t stand people that stand behind their BIBLE” and still can even THINK of making comments like THAT! not cool… NOONE has the right to judge ANYONE. . . only GOD!

A&E is an intolerant, bigoted hater who is displaying the hypocritical truths of the mainstream media and entertainment industries. A&E loves the money but hates the biblical stands that are taken by the Robertson family. As I see it A&E is constantly trying to play down or even stop the moral and promote the wicked. Adding bleeps where no cursing is and wanting the Robertson’s to stop praying in Jesus name is censorship. If A&E does not like what they say, fire them, don’t try to change them. They are big boys they will be alright; course A&E will not get its precious money! A&E is acting like a girl who got an awesome man, but is now whining because she can’t get his balls in her purse.

You should practice what you preach, you expressed your opinion just as Phil did so why are different? If you will read the story he judged no one as you have done. We are a free people but people like you try to shove your opinions down other peoples throat. A&E you should just stick to making programs and stop trying to satisfy the ungodly in this world, sorry but that is not your job. If anyone has a problem with what is on TV (here is a secret Karen) there are hundreds of other channels to watch, and I feel confident in saying that more people disagree with you than agree, but as an American you can express your opinion

It seems strange to me that a lot of people don”t see or want to see this, but Mr. Robertson has a deal with A&E to represent himself as a part of their network. It’s not a freedom of speech it’s a representation of their team. He signed the contract, he should have known better and kept his beliefs to himself. If he wanted to preach in a pulpit then he should’ve joined the ministry. Sorry ya’ll he’s in the wrong here

I a gay man love the show. I don’t understand why there is such a problem with one mans opinion. I’m all about family values. I don’t believe in god and really don’t care for the low life people I have to live around.
