Duck Dynasty Family Issues Statement After A&E Suspends Phil Robertson

December 20, 2013 08:08 AM by Lisa Princ

Phil Robertson was suspended recently from any further taping of Duck Dynasty by A&E, after he did an interview in which the network thought his remarks were offensive. Now, the family has issued a statement, and it sounds like there will be no more show without the Robertson patriarch.

Uh oh. Did A&E make their biggest mistake ever? It sure seems like they did when they decided to suspend Phil Robertson indefinitely from any further taping of Duck Dynasty after his comments about homosexuals did not sit well with the network. Since the news broke, fans have been wondering what the future will hold for Duck Dynasty, and from what the family says, it sounds like without Phil, there is no show.

The Robertson clan issued the following statement on their website last night:

“We want to thank all of you for your prayers and support. The family has spent much time in prayer since learning of A&E’s decision. We want you to know that first and foremost we are a family rooted in our faith in God and our belief that the Bible is His word. While some of Phil’s unfiltered comments to the reporter were coarse, his beliefs are grounded in the teachings of the Bible. Phil is a Godly man who follows what the Bible says are the greatest commandments: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart’ and ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Phil would never incite or encourage hate. We are disappointed that Phil has been placed on hiatus for expressing his faith, which is his constitutionally protected right. We have had a successful working relationship with A&E but, as a family, we cannot imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at the helm. We are in discussions with A&E to see what that means for the future of Duck Dynasty. Again, thank you for your continued support of our family.”

Hmm, we wonder if A&E will reinstate Phil, or perhaps the family is contemplating leaving the network altogether? In any event, we are certainly glad to see them standing behind their patriarch.

What do you think of Phil Robertson’s comments? Was A&E correct to suspend him? We know you have an opinion and we want to hear from you! Sound off in the comments section below!

I have read Phil Robertson’s comments in there entirety. There is no way his comments come across offensively unless only small clips of his comments are used out of content. I am proud that the Robertson family is standing up for their values. It would be good if the people in charge at A&E had values or were not afraid to stand up for their values.

“Phil would never incite or encourage hate.” Lumping gay people with terrorists and zoophiles/animal screwers sounds an awful lot like encouraging hate to me.

Good for you Phil, I would not blame you for closing the show and maybe finding a new network other than A & E. We will miss your family, but as Church Of Christ members ourselves, my family will not watch anymore A & E shows.

GQ is really to blame here for publishing an interview with a homeless looking redneck. He’s said many times how he hates “yuppies,” but is interviewed by THE biggest “yuppie” publication around?
That’s just a silly trap that a classless reporter lured a classless old hillbilly into, and GQ gets to sit back and watch the fallout. Classless is the only way to describe it.
“Gentlemen’s Quarterly” no longer has a clue as to what real gentlemen discuss. Genitalia and happy old negroes are not on that list.
