Duck Dynasty Controversy: Other Networks Are Ready To Pounce

December 24, 2013 09:07 AM by Suzy Kerr

There’s a lot of hate (and some love too) directed at the Duck Dynasty clan right now, but one thing is clear – Phil Robertson and his family will have plenty of other TV opportunities if A&E ditches them. TMZ is reporting that a couple of other networks have expressed interest in the Bearded Ones and their duck call empire, so it doesn’t look like we’ll be saying farewell to the Robertsons anytime soon.

Unfortunately, the networks who have shown interest are ones that no one has ever heard of. The Hunt Channel was the first to pipe up, saying that Duck Dynasty would fit in perfectly with its Christian-affiliated programming. The owner says he’d take on the Robertsons faster than you can make a duck call. He also took the opportunity to dis A&E for their punishment of Phil Robertson, saying, “We believe in the 2nd amendment and freedom of speech … A&E needs to put on their big boy pants, and if they don’t like the programming, they need to either let [DD] go or shut up and pay them.” He also added, “A&E is too scripted. [Hunt Channel] would let the personalities flow.”

The other interested network is the Pursuit Channel (seriously, who has heard of these), which offers a host of outdoorsy-type shows. CEO Rusty Faulk says Pursuit is absolutely committed to picking up Duck Dynasty if A&E terminates their agreement with the Robertsons, and he also said, “We don’t censor our personalities.” BOOM.

A&E is in a tricky spot, it would seem. No matter what they decide to do with the show, they’re going to be condemned by one side or the other. And now that other networks are potentially dangling censorship-free contracts to the Robertsons, A&E may have to act quickly. The bearded men and their ladies are in a tricky spot of their own, however, as their contract with A&E says they are not allowed to do another show for a certain amount of time following the expiration/termination of their A&E contract.

Tick tock. We all wait with bated breath.

So what are your thoughts on this? Should Phil and Family move to another network, or try and work it out with A&E? Tell us your opinion in the comments!
