When A&E decided to suspend Phil Robertson from any further taping of Duck Dynasty for his anti-gay comments in GQ, they clearly did not consider the backlash they would receive from fans. However, the I stand with Phil petition is still growing and social media pages in support of the show’s patriarch are still exploding less than two weeks after what was likely the network’s biggest mistake ever.
In the aftermath of the Phil Robertson controversy, fans are still rallying behind their favorite bearded redneck to support the Duck Dynasty star, in attempt to prove to A&E that they made a huge mistake. The network pulled Robertson from any further taping of the show after he made some anti-gay comments in GQ magazine recently, which were nothing more than quotes from the bible. But while A&E was busy trying to please GLAAD, they seemed to have forgotten the millions of fans that tune into the hit show every week.
Social media pages in support of Phil Robertson have been blowing up since the controversy, including the facebook pages: Stand with Phil Robertson, and Boycott A&E until Phil Robertson is back on Duck Dynasty, both of which have already tripled the amount of likes that A&E’s network page has. Meanwhile, the I stand with Phil petition is close to having 240K signatures, with the goal at 250K. If you haven’t signed the petition yet, you can sign it here.
Since the suspension of Phil, the Robertson family has stated that they will not continue the show without him, and we don’t blame them. The ball is in A&E’s court now, and fans are anxiously awaiting to see how this all plays out. Reports have also surfaced that other networks are already ready to jump on the Duck Dynasty stars, while many of their sponsors have also stood up in support of Robertson.
