There’s a brand new member of the kitchen crew! Top Chef judge Gail Simmons delivered a baby girl earlier this week, and we’ve got all the details about the new arrival – including her unique name and its sweet origin.
Gail and her husband Jeremy Abrams, who runs the music programming business Audiostiles, welcomed little Dahlia Rae Abrams into their family on Sunday, December 29.This is the first baby for the pair, and a rep for Gail told People magazine, “Dahlia weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces. Mother, father and baby are doing wonderfully.”
The 37-year old Toronto native confirmed her pregnancy back in July, five years after she tied the knot with Jeremy in 2008. Their wedding, which took place in Long Island, was later featured in Martha Stewart’s Real Weddings magazine as well as on her website.
In her memoir, Talking with my Mouth Full, Gail shares the story of how Jeremy proposed to her one morning following a hectic 10-day tour to promote Top Chef. She was still in bed when he popped the question, and after accepting his ring, the doorbell rang. It was a delivery person with a “full breakfast delivery” from the couple’s favorite restaurant in NYC. “We made it last the whole day, laid out like a picnic on our living room floor,” she writes.
But that wasn’t all. “Twenty minutes later, the doorbell rang again,” she continues in her book.“Two deliverymen arrived bearing vases full of flowers; huge peonies, dahlias, roses, and hydrangeas. They lasted for days.”Dahlias, huh? Could those flowers be the inspiration for their little girl’s name? It definitely was a better choice than Hydrangea, that’s for sure.
So what do you think about Gail Simmons’ latest creation? Do you love the name? Tell us what you think in the comments!
