Back in September, we learned that Harry Connick Jr. would be joining Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban on the American Idol judging panel, in an attempt to save the once popular singing competition. But what can Connick Jr. bring to the table that hasn’t been seen in a long time? Well, he may just be the new Simon Cowell of the show!
When American Idol returns tonight, we’ll see a new face on the judging panel: Harry Connick Jr. And while it will definitely be a refreshing change from the drama divas of last season, fans are curious as to what Harry could bring to brighten up the dull show. According to Connick Jr., he may just be the next Simon Cowell – sort of, that is.
Speaking with E! News recently, Connick Jr. said that while we won’t see him calling anyone names, he does think that Simon made the show fun. “Simon is a genius. I think he was unbelievable and people don’t realize how hard it is to do what he did. I can’t really compare myself to him. He’s coming at it from a record industry point of view. I’m coming at it from a performer’s point of view…But we are both honest,” Harry went on to explain.
And with Jennifer Lopez back, heaven knows there will be a lot of sugar coating everything, so it will be great to see Harry Connick Jr. give real and honest critique. Of course, we’ve also got Keith Urban, who was pretty impressive in his first season on the show. I don’t know about you, but I am definitely interested to see how these three do tonight on the season premiere.
