Everyone — and we mean everyone — is talking about Harry Connick Jr. and his amazing debut as a judge on American Idol. Nobody was quite sure what to expect, although we all knew the singer would have the resume necessary to back up any criticism he offered. But former judge Ellen DeGeneres also recognized that Harry had always possessed another key quality: a great sense of humor!
Ever since Harry Connick Jr. was announced as a brand new judge on American Idol, fans, former contestants and even former judges have been applauding this excellent addition to the panel. Ellen DeGeneres certainly approved, as she made clear the other day during an American Idol interview on her talk show. While chatting with Harry, Ellen admitted that, during her time on Idol, she’d begged producers to allow Harry to join the show. “Harry is so hilarious,” she explained, adding, “I don’t think people know how funny you are and how knowledgeable you are about music.”
Of course, there are plenty of other factors determining whether a particular singer will also make a good American Idol judge. A sense of camaraderie is definitely important, as we once again learned from last year’s disastrous judging panel. Fortunately, it looks like Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. make a great trio. They certainly got on well during their appearance on Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show, having a blast together while playing Heads Up. Ellen later tweeted about the experience, explaining, “@JLo, @KeithUrban & @HarryConnickJr are gonna make a great team on Idol, if this round of #HeadsUp is any indication.”
