What’s the secret to a successful marriage? Ryan and Trista Sutter think they have the answer, and after 10 years together, they might be right. Most Hollywood couples (or in their case, quasi-Hollywood) have a hard time making it through a whole decade, but not these former Bachelorette stars. So what’s the answer to the big secret?
In a recent interview with People magazine, Ryan and Trista Sutter revealed what keeps their relationship strong, and it probably won’t surprise you too much. The parents of two say their relationship success is based largely on their decision 10 years ago to move away from Hollywood and live normal lives. “When the show was over, I saw Trista didn’t need the cameras,” Ryan told the magazine. “Our roots grew deeper and deeper.”
And those roots, planted firmly in Colorado, far away from Hollywood, have developed into a real, not-for-TV, genuine relationship. Of course, both Trista and Ryan readily admit that their relationship didn’t start in the most normal way. “The way we got together is so not normal,” the former Bachelorette told People. “But we do live a normal life. Yes, we met in a fantastical way, but it’s really what we did after the show that mattered.”
So what did they do after the show? They focused on each other. Ryan and Trista both agree that their decision to make each other a priority is what has helped them build such a strong relationship. In fact, the couple, who are parents to 6-year old Max and 4-year old Blakesley, celebrated 10 years of marriage (!) last month. To commemorate the occasion, they held a special vow renewal ceremony, which ABC filmed for a special program airing on Jan. 19.
So what do you think of Ryan and Trista Sutter’s answer to how to make a marriage work? Will you be tuning into their vow renewal ceremony this weekend? Tell us in the comments!
