The latest cycle of America’s Next Top Model included a significant departure from previous season: the inclusion of male models! Tyra Banks says that the switch-up has completely revitalized the show, which is why she definitely plans to stick to this gender diversified contestant base in the future.
As of 2012, America’s Next Top Model was beginning to hit crisis mode. The show had ditched perennial favorites such as Nigel Barker and Miss J, replacing them with the incredibly annoying Bryanboy and pretty boy Rob Evans. Fans were increasingly ditching their weekly round of smize and tooch, all because they found it impossible to get on board with the boring contestants and obnoxious judges.
All that has changed (well, not the annoying judges), thanks to the inclusion of male models last season. The guys added a fresh new element to an otherwise stagnating show. Tyra Banks is happy with the results, as she made clear in a recent interview with Digital Spy. “Oh my God, it’s almost like Top Model‘s a new brand. The ratings are higher, we’re trending constantly on Twitter, because we’ve added guys.”
Part of the value of adding guys, in Tyra’s opinion, is that it keeps it interesting not only for audience members but also for the show’s beloved host. Of course, this change represents just one of many seen in the past few years. ”I don’t get bored, because we constantly change it up. There’s so many teaches and challenges and photo shoots…if you do what you love you won’t get bored and it’ll never feel old.”
