Didn’t see that one coming, Alison Sweeney. The perky host of The Biggest Loser and daytime soap star dropped a major bombshell during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show yesterday, shocking audience members and daytime fans who have watched her on Days of Our Lives for the last two decades. Here’s a hint at her big news: Sami Brady’s days of causing trouble for the people of Salem are coming to an end.
That’s right, Alison Sweeney announced her plans to quit acting on Days of Our Lives, after 21 years of playing conniving villainess Sami Brady. During Sweeney’s appearance on Ellen’s show, she told shocked viewers, “I decided that it’s going to be my last year with the show. I’ve been on Days of Our Lives since I was 16 years old, and I have never had more than a two-week vacation in that whole time.”
Of course, it wasn’t an easy decision for the television star, who also hosts the hit reality weight loss show The Biggest Loser. “I love my job, I love daytime, I love the fans. I love everything about it,” she confessed to Ellen before adding, “I just work so much and my daughter just turned 5 and my son is 9 and I just want to be with them.”
Sounds like a perfectly good reason to me, especially since she’s still going to be working on The Biggest Loser. As for Days, Sweeney says that she does plan to finish out the year on the show, so it won’t be like people have to go sans Sami cold turkey. She also said that she’s torn about how she wants her character’s last scene to play out, either with a happy ending that will give fans closure, or with something a little darker, with Sami getting a“twisted, like, Breaking Bad ending” for all the trouble she’s caused.
So what do you think about Alison Sweeney’s announcement? Sound off in the comments!
