The Bachelor Wedding Gets Pummeled In The Ratings By The Grammy Awards

January 28, 2014 09:00 AM by Suzy Kerr

Sorry Sean and Catherine….I guess people were more interested in watching Beyonce grind on Jay-Z at the Grammys than in watching you guys say “I do.” Sunday night, ABC aired a special Bachelor wedding event, where season 17’s bachelor, Sean Lowe, exchanged vows with Catherine Guidici in a fairytale ceremony that, in spite of all the hype, couldn’t even begin to compete with the 56thAnnual Grammy Awards. Say it with me, guys. DUH.

For fans of The Bachelor, Sean and Catherine’s live TV wedding Sunday was an eagerly awaited event that captured the reality show’s promises of true love. The couple, who became engaged at the end of season 17, swapped vows at the Four Seasons Resort – The Biltmore Santa Barbara in front of a crowd that included other alums from the Bachelor/Bachelorette franchises, and even a Real Housewife, as Lisa Vanderpump and her dog Giggy made an appearance.

ABC had hoped to kill it in the ratings with the live wedding spectacular, but even all the publicity leading up to the ceremony couldn’t bring in the viewers they hoped for. Just 6.2 million people tuned into Sean and Catherine’s fairytale wedding. While that’s 60 percent more viewers than the last Bachelor wedding, allow me to put it into perspective for you: 29.7 million people watched the Grammy Awards. TWENTY-NINE POINT SEVEN MILLION. Big difference, y’all.

C’mon, ABC. Did you really think Sean and Catherine could compete with the allure of the music industry’s biggest event? I mean hello, Macklemore was there rockin’ his thrift shop finds, and Beyonce was busy getting’ all sexy on Jay-Z (something Sean and Catherine had every intention of doing later that night, btw). I mean, the choice is obvious, right?

So which one did you watch? Had you been anticipating Sean Lowe and Catherine Guidici’s wedding since Sean first got down on one knee? Or were you more interested to find out what Taylor Swift was wearing? Tell us in the comments!
