In what may be the most surprising (and most alarming) transformation in Biggest Loser history, Rachel Frederickson managed to lose over 59 percent of her body weight. But not all viewers are impressed; in fact, many worry that Rachel may have taken the weight loss effort to an extreme. Based on initial post-finale interviews, the champ appears to be intent on maintaining her very thin figure.
Fans of The Biggest Loser are accustomed to seeing total body transformations, but rarely do contestants come even close to achieving the type of slim down experienced by Rachel Frederickson. The recent Biggest Loser victor went from 260 pounds to a very thin 105, which, on her 5’3 frame, is bordering on underweight.
In a recent chat with Us Weekly, Rachel admitted that she’d lost a fair amount of weight between makeover week and the finale. “I started as a [size] 20 and now I’m a 0/2. I was a 6 during makeover week.” She added that the hard work wasn’t over, explaining, “It’s all about maintaining now!” During a later interview on the Today Show, Rachel said she was planning to continue exercising and eating healthy at least 90 percent of the time.
In addition to maintaining her new figure, Rachel intends to spend the next few weeks taking advantage of all the socializing she missed out on when she weighed over 200 pounds. She can’t wait to ”go out and make friends and take people up on offers to go for coffee or to the movies and just really embrace every moment of life and not hide anymore!”
Do you think Rachel Frederickson’s weight loss was excessive? Is The Biggest Loser setting a bad precedent by crowning someone with such a low body mass index? Sound off in the comments section below!
