After Rachel Frederickson stepped on the scale during the Biggest Loser finale and shocked us with her 160-pound weight loss, the controversy was immediate. People wasted no time sounding off about Rachel’s tiny frame, with some praising her for her efforts and others expressing concern that she’d gone too far. Now, Rachel is firing back at her critics, sharing her diet and fitness secrets in hopes of assuring everyone that she may be a lot smaller, but she’s perfectly healthy.
After 15 seasons, the finale of The Biggest Loser is always filled with surprise, as it’s the first time we’ve seen the contestants after several months of post-filming weight loss. This season, however, gave us the biggest surprise of all when Rachel Frederickson stepped on the scale and stunned viewers with her dramatic weight loss, setting off a major controversy about whether or not Rachel had lost an unhealthy amount of weight.
Rachel went from 260 pounds to 105 pounds, dropping almost 60 percent of her body weight over a period of 7 months. While viewers at home and at the live taping were obviously shocked at the transformation – including trainers Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels – Rachel herself was overjoyed.”I feel amazing. I feel truly alive and just transformed,” she told E! News after the show. “I couldn’t be more happy, more thankful to get this second chance to take charge of my life again.”
And as for the numerous critics who have openly – and loudly – voiced their concerns that the 24-year old is now at an unhealthy weight, Rachel has assured everyone that she’s healthy, happy and committed to staying that way. “I make sure that I plan ahead.I cook my meals; make sure I’m ready for the week and that I have some snacks prepared. If my day is really busy with work, I have a snack prepared and ready to go so that I don’t have to take the quick fix. I eat five times a day. The key, really, it’s in the kitchen, you got to work hard in the kitchen, too.”
She also revealed her workout plans, which will have a new focus on fun. “I’m going to choose something different,” she said, “[Like] spinning and yoga and pilates and weight-lifting. If you can incorporate fun into it, it just makes it so much better.”
So what do you think about Rachel Frederickson’s weight loss? Is she healthy or does she need to gain back a few pounds? Tell us in the comments!
