Keeping Up with the Kardashians star Kim Kardashian just announced she’s working on a children’s clothing line, but it’s her baby daddy Kanye West who’s making the headlines today in the fashion world. The rapper’s much anticipated Nike sneakers dropped yesterday, selling out in record time and taking everyone off guard – even Yeezy himself.
If you recall, Kanye signed a deal with Nike last year to design some new high-tops, but everything went south in November, and in a very public way. During a radio interview , the rapper/sometimes Keeping Up with the Kardashians star bashed Nike about their business practices, claiming that the athletic wear giant refused to relinquish creative control or give him royalties from the sale of his shoes. He then signed a deal with Adidas as the final “f you” to Nike.
But apparently Nike wasn’t quite done with Kanye West, as yesterday they (finally) released the Air Yeezy II high tops. The company tweeted that the “Red October” shoes were now available, and just like that, there they were – but only for a few minutes.Online shoppers snatched up the $295 sneakers so fast that the shoes sold out in just 11 minutes. After that, the only option for procrastinating shoppers was eBay, where the sneaks were listed at $10,000.TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS.For some stupid red high tops (that were way overpriced at $295, imo). Moments like this make me concerned for future generations.
So that’s what I think about it, but what did Kim Kardashian’s man think about the surprise shoe launch? Well, he actually handled it with grace and even showed a little gratitude. “I’m still gonna do music but I really do feel honored to have had the chance to blow Yeezy up with Nike and I really appreciate everything they did for me,” he said. “I’m not knocking them on the way out or burning no bridges, you know, I apologize for my frustration earlier. I just think it’s time. It’s go time. It’s turn up time.”
So what are your thoughts on Kanye West’s much sought after sneakers? Is it completely nuts that people are spending thousands of dollars on shoes? Tell us in the comments!
