Yolanda Foster Remains Optimistic About Recovering From Lyme Disease

February 12, 2014 08:55 AM by Stephanie Gustafson

Yolanda Foster recently attracted attention by choosing to put her $27 million mansion up for sale. The decision was definitely a practical one, as the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star’s Lyme disease struggles make managing such a huge estate virtually impossible.

Every once in awhile, Bravo’s Real Housewives franchise takes a break from its usual petty arguments in order to offer viewers an insider glimpse at more compelling issues. Yolanda Foster serves as the perfect example — her battle against Lyme disease played out on national television and proved incredibly effective in terms of raising awareness.

In a recent interview with Good Morning America, Yolanda admitted that, as annoying as it is to force crazy amounts of medication down her throat, the emotional impact of her illness is far worse than any physical complaints. “It’s such a lonely disease and it’s so silent….I get emotional just thinking about it. How am I ever going to get out of this?”

If there’s one thing we love about Yolanda Foster, it’s her admirable displays of determination in the face of a devastating disease. She told Good Morning America, “I’m determined and I’m gonna beat this thing.” The reality star has been fortunate enough to participate in an exclusive clinical trial, but she also recognizes that not all sufferers are afforded such an opportunity. Thus, Yolanda’s focused on getting the word out in hopes of promoting early detection. Following her Good Morning America appearance, she took to Twitter to thank the show for “helping me bring awareness.”

    Yolanda,
I too suffer from Lyme disease and neurological effects of the disease. We had to sell our home in 2010 because of the illness. Have they tried testing for co-infections? The parasitic infection from tics causes problems with neuro function. You probably already have all of this info but thought I would mention just in case. I saw your segment today and I hope that you are able to more like these. Thank you for raising awareness. I know how vulnerable it can make you. Because of ignorance in the medical community we suffer more than just physically as we are our own advocates in fighting this horrible disease and regaining our former self. God Bless and best of luck on the experimental treatment. I hope that it brings you healing and relief from your suffering

Yolanda, How hard it must be to sell such a beautiful home. On the flip side, how wonderful to be feeling better and have a diagnosis as to why you were feeling so bad for so long. I wish and pray that you, your family and that remarkably talented husband of yours have nothing but years of good health, love and happiness ahead. Please continue to be the beautiful, classy, loving woman you portray on TV. Best to you and your family! Marcie Holm PS, If you ever find yourself in the Destin FL. area, please give me a call at:1-850-710-3001…I would love to meet you. You have so much as far as material possessions and yet appear to act so down to earth, so very normal compared to many we see on television. I would also love to meet the man,(your husband) that the good lord has given such tremendous talent to. He continues to amaze me. Stay well!

Lymie here too. Stable, on going open treatment, but never eradicating the disease since there is no cure. Just want to say THANK YOUUUUU for standing up and making it PUBLIC and raising awareness. On behalf of all Lymies out there, THANK YOU.
