Former Real Housewives of New York City star Bethenny Frankel is officially a talk show one hit wonder…and the word “hit” is being used loosely here. The news came down on Friday that Bethenny’s self-titled daytime talk fest would not be renewed for a second season, leaving the 17 people who tuned in regularly completely distraught.
Okay, okay, that was a little mean. In reality, Bethenny drew in an average 1.1 million viewers, which wasn’t nearly enough to seal the deal for a sophomore season. The show’s production company, Telepictures, confirmed on Fri. Feb. 14 that Bethenny would not be renewed. “We are incredibly proud of the creativity, passion, and professionalism Bethenny and her staff brought to daytime each and every day and look forward to finishing out the season with more great original episodes,” Telepictures said in a statement. “While we are disappointed not to be able to bring the series back for a second season, we remain convinced that she has a unique voice and that she will continue to be successful in the future.”
Bethenny, who left The Real Housewives of New York City in 2010, started filming the talk show in the fall of 2013, but sources close to the ex-reality star say that the daytime setting wasn’t a great fit for her. “The truth is, while she did love the show, it was hard for her to be edited every day in the daytime talk show world,” the insider told Us Weekly. “She is who she is, and she never wanted to have to edit herself, which she often had to do. So it is all for the best.”
Bethenny herself, however, is keeping her head high and her options open. She also had nothing but nice things to say about her daytime experience, telling Us, “I had a blast doing this show with Telepictures. My entire staff worked so hard and made everyday so much fun. I am thankful for the experience and for all of my fans who tuned in every day.”
So what do you think about Bethenny Frankel’s talk show getting the axe? Are you surprised or did you see this one coming? Sound off in the comments!
