From the beginning Team Cee Lo has proven a major force on The Voice, even if it hasn’t quite been able to match the success of Team Adam and Team Blake. Now, though, things about to change — the judge recently announced his intention to step away from the big red chair.
Like it or not, it’s time to bid Cee Lo Green adieu. The singer and judge broke the big news during a recent appearance on Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show, confessing, “I’m not coming back, guys. I don’t want to wear out my welcome there.”
Cee Lo Green’s main imperative isn’t just to avoid wearing out his welcome. He also has big plans for the next several months — namely, going on tour! He shared this huge development on his Twitter page last week, explaining that he was, “Honored to be joining Mr. @LionelRichie on his ‘All The Hits All Night Long’ Summer 2014 tour!”
NBC has confirmed Cee Lo’s departure, although representatives for the network claim that he’ll be involved in future projects. “We’re looking forward to working with him on other upcoming projects that will tap into both his musical and entertainment expertise.”
Thus far, The Voice’s Facebook fans appear to be split when it comes to the prospect of The Voice minus Cee Lo. Some felt that the judge had already “[worn] out [his] welcome,” while others were eager to see him topple the dominant Team Blake and Team Adam. If nothing else, disappointed fans can take solace in the fact that Cee Lo still has plenty of musical contributions up his sleeve — just not in the realm of reality television.
