We were definitely excited when we learned that YouTube favorites Meghan and Joey would be returning to the All-Star edition of The Amazing Race, with former best buds John and Jessica in tow. But last night’s episode proved that the long-term alliance might not be so strong after all.
Meghan Camarena and Joey Graceffa already boasted quite the Facebook following when they made their Amazing Race debut one year ago. But the team’s popularity has only increased since then, in part due to their continued loyalty to John Erck and Jessica Hoel. But the show’s alliances are rarely ironclad — and based on the latest leg of the race, this one might be nearing an end.
The problems arrived when John and Jessica managed to squeeze onto the mat just before Meghan and Joey. Perilously close to elimination, Meghan was forced to concede that she and Joey would continue to pair up with John and Jessica “when it’s to our advantage — but probably never like today again.”
Although she received some negative feedback for even thinking of destroying the alliance, the bulk of the latest Meghan-relate criticism occurred when the contestant trashed Caroline and Jennifer for not being able to “do anything on their own.” Many viewers felt that this comment was merely an attack on the country singers’ appearance. Meghan responded to these accusations with the following Twitter apology: “Dear anyone with blond hair, Sorry for what I said tonight on [The Amazing Race]. It wasn’t fair to categorize everyone with that stereotype.”
What do you think of Team YouTube’s crumbling alliance? How about Meghan’s assessment of Caroline and Jennifer? Sound off in the comments section below!
