Last year, when dozens of fraud charges against Joe and Teresa Giudice came to light, the Real Housewives of New Jersey stars insisted that they were innocent — and that they planned to fight the allegations to the best of their ability. But after finally realizing that there was absolutely no way to escape jail time, the couple decided to plead guilty in exchange for a lighter sentence.
Joe and Teresa Giudice’s upcoming stints in jail come as little shock to the Facebook community, which was already predicting time behind bars when the scandal first erupted in 2013. Still, few could have guessed that, with several dozen counts of fraud, the two could have successfully whittled down their sentences to a maximum of four years for Joe and just over two for Teresa.
In a statement read by her lawyer, Teresa claimed to take responsibility for “a series of mistakes I made several years ago.” She also stated her intention to describe her poor choices and “express my remorse to Judge Salas and the public” while attending her sentencing in July.
As always, Teresa referred to her children as her top priority. “I am heartbroken that this is affecting my family — especially my four young daughters, who mean more to me than anything in the world.”
The Twitter response to Teresa’s statement has been swift, with most users suggesting that the Giudices should have confessed a long time ago. However, the Real Housewives of New Jersey stars still retain a surprisingly large fan base and thus, have received plenty of sympathy tweets in the last few hours.
