Those of you who are familiar with Michelle Duggar and her family will already know that she has given birth to more children than most women would or could in two lifetimes. At 47-years-old Michelle may be the proud parent of 19 children, and counting, but should she really keep counting?
It is no secret that Michelle Duggar and her husband Jim Bob Duggar, the stars of the hit TLC show 19 Kids & Counting, are trying to conceive child number 20, but this is a subject that has sparked quite a bit of controversy.
Following a number of previous health scares and a heartbreaking miscarriage, the couple were pleased to announce last October that they were trying to conceive yet another bundle of joy. Michelle told Celebrity Baby Scoop at the time, “I would be so grateful if the Lord blessed us with another one. We’re trying at this point and we shall see if that is a possibility. If not, we are so thankful and grateful for the ones that God has given us so far.”
The Duggar family are a beautiful, kind and loving family, as fans of the show already know. Currently the family consists of 19 children, nine girls and ten boys (including two sets of twins), all of whose names begin with the letter “J”.
It is Michelle’s body after all, and no one can dictate what she chooses to do with it, but her journey through motherhood has not been without its heartaches and complications, and because of these facts, and given that she is currently in her late-forties, is it really wise to continue “trying” for another child?
Carrying her children to term in recent years has proven difficult for Michelle, and she was dealt a devastating blow in 2011, when she sadly miscarried her daughter Jubilee Shalom. However, this was not the first time that the mom-of-19 had faced a health scare, she previously suffered from a scare in 2009, when her beautiful little daughter Josie Brooklyn had to be delivered by emergency Caesarean section. Little Josie was born 3-months premature and weighed only a tiny 1 pound, 6 ounces.
In addition to the health risks that Michelle could face from having another child, there are also complications associated with her age that could potentially affect her unborn child. Is it perhaps too risky to attempt to bring yet another life into this world?
Although, despite the criticism that Michelle may be facing, she appears to be in good spirits about her health and the possibility of bringing another life into this world right now. She joyfully revealed to Celebrity Baby Scoop, “My health is good and I am grateful for that. I think it could be different: every person struggles with different things, but I am so grateful that my health is good and I am able to enjoy running and chasing my little ones around at this point in my life.”
Also, if not natural birth, could adoption be something that the Duggars should consider? “We’re praying about if the Lord would want us to adopt,” Michelle has said. “We have set up our home to be designed for taking care of children. We love children, and we really believe every child is a special gift from God,” Jim Bob added.
However, the development in early childhood is important, and so is receiving adequate attention from your parents, will adding another bundle of joy to this already overcrowded brood possibly take even more attention away from Michelle and Jim Bob’s current children?
On the other hand, it is evident Michelle loves motherhood and is deeply grateful for each of her children. In a recent interview with Today Moms for their Love Your Selfie body image series, she revealed, “The stretch marks and the little pudgy places, those are my marks of glory for my kids. I look at Jordyn, I look at Jackson and I think, ‘I remember that stretch mark. You were worth it. And I wouldn’t trade that stretch mark for anything.’”
Tell us what you think, should Michelle Duggar keep trying for baby number 20? Or is it time to just focus on the children that she has.
