Playing favorites is an integral part of The Voice, but on American Idol, it takes a distinctively different form. Jena Irene may not be an official member of Team Jennifer, but she definitely has JLo’s support!
Jena Irene has definitely been struggling on American Idol, with the Facebook community clearly expressing more interest in the likes of Dexter Roberts and Majesty Rose. But Jennifer Lopez insists that Jena has plenty to offer — and that she deserves a spot in the top ten.
For movie night, Jena decided to sing a cover of Paramore’s Decode, which was famously featured in Twilight. Jennifer definitely approved of the performance, jumping to her feet to congratulate her favorite contestant. The judge raved, “I really don’t know what you were doing in the bottom three last week. I mean, honestly, you have one of the best voices here…America please get on board with this.”
JLo added that Jena’s performance was her absolute favorite of the night. Keith Urban also expressed his approval; he particularly enjoyed the ferocity with which Jena attacked the piano accompaniment. And even ‘mean judge’ Harry Connick Jr. told Jena that her performance was “really strong.”
The judges may adore Jena Irene, but none of that matters if the voters disagree. The singer did manage to capture plenty of praise on Twitter last night, with fans raving over her song choice, her piano talent, and, of course, her amazing vocals. But the question remains: will all the compliments translate into actual votes?
We’ve included a video of Jena Irene’s Paramore cover below. Check it out and then head to the comments section to tell us whether she deserves to make the top ten!
