The Voice just may have snagged its next Tessanne Chin! During last night’s battle rounds, Sisaundra Lewis earned plenty of praise on Facebook for her amazing rendition of Do What U Want. The singer certainly boasts an excellent set of pipes, but is she truly deserving of the frontrunner label?
Battle rounds are always interesting on The Voice, as both the judges and audience members can learn a lot by pitting contestants against one another. Last night’s pairings proved particularly contentious, as they resulted in the elimination of several talented musicians.
In one of the most fascinating battles of the night, former teen pop sensation Paula DeAnda and current fan favorite Sisaundra Lewis both were asked to perform Do What U Want. Paula’s voice was excellent as usual, but Sisaundra definitely stole the show. Following the performance, Usher referred to Sisaundra as an “incredible talent.” Shakira agreed, praising the singer for reserving her high note for the perfect moment. Blake had the final say — and like the other judges, he felt Sisaundra was the clear winner.
Although he opted for Sisaundra, Blake acknowledged that Paula DeAnda “sang the crap out of” Do What U Want. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough, as the other judges remained unwilling to go for the steal.
Although she was sent home far earlier than she anticipated, Paula remained positive while chatting with her Twitter followers. She thanked fans for “[realizing] I’m just out here chasing my dream” and promised to continue that chase.
We’ve posted Sisaundra Lewis and Paula DeAnda’s battle below. Check it out and, when you’re done, head to the comments to tell us whether Sisaundra deserved to win.
