Malaya Watson was an early favorite on American Idol, so it came as a bit of a shock when she was sent packing last night. Sadly, having used their final save on Sam Woolf, the judges had no way to keep Malaya in the running.
Last night was a tough one for Malaya Watson’s Facebook fans. Earlier in the season, many regarded the talented singer as something of a front runner, and thus, destined to stick around. Sadly, Malaya only made it to the top eight.
In Malaya’s opinion, the worst thing about being sent home is not necessarily her failure to cinch an Idol victory (although, of course, such an accomplishment would have been nice). Shortly after her elimination, the singer told The Hollywood Reporter that she was mostly sad because she was no longer able to “[perform] on the stage, because the stage is awesome. You can be yourself…you can just do your thing.”
Although she’s super disappointed, Malaya is also grateful for the time she did have on American Idol. She believed the experience helped her mature as a musician. “I’m more focused on my music. I used to sing for the heck of it, because I was bored or because I like to sing. But now I’m focused on getting bigger and better with what I do.”
Malaya Watson’s Twitter followers are devastated by their favorite contestant’s elimination. They feel that Malaya’s spectacular Dreamgirls performance was proof that she deserved, at minimum, another week on American Idol. Do you agree? We know you have an opinion and we want to hear it, so feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below!
