Nick Lachey has always been a supporter of Autism Awareness, but until now, no one really knew why. Now, just in time for Autism Awareness month, the hunky former host of NBC’s The Sing Off and former contestant of Stars Earn Stripes is finally opening up about his autistic younger brother. Who knew?

Twitter is buzzing about Autism Awareness month, which happens to be this month, so it’s the perfect time for celebrities to come and share their own stories. But that is not the reason Nick Lachey is finally sharing his brother’s story. For Nick, sharing his 19-year-old brother Zac’s story was something that Nick wanted Zac to be comfortable with before Nick would discuss it, according to an interview Lachey did with CBS recently.

The 40-year-old singer turned reality star explained: “He’s referred to as high-functioning autistic. So he’s verbal and able to go to a fairly typical school. He’s socially different than what we perceive as normal for kids. He gets anxious and he’s very focused. He hones in one on thing and he can’t be taken out of it…He’s a good kid, a sweet kid…He just learns differently than most people and reacts to situations differently,” of his younger brother Zac, who was diagnosed with Asperger syndrome, a form of autism, at the age of seven.

For Lachey’s family, it’s been a frustrating road with so many questions regarding Autism and not enough answers. And it’s because of his brother Zac, who was adopted after Nick and Drew left home for 98 Degrees, that Nick launched the fifth Lindt Gold Bunny Celebrity Auction last week to help raise awareness about autism. The event auctions celebrity autographed gold bunny figures, with all the proceeds going to Autism Speaks, a research and advocacy organization for autism. As if we needed another reason to love Nick even more!
