Last night, the current batch of judges and contestants on American Idol (and, of course, Ryan Seacrest) celebrated the reality show’s 500th episode. Highlights of this landmark occasion included hometown songs from the top three, plenty of congratulatory wishes from the show’s huge group of alumni, and, of course, a massive American Idol 500th episode cake!
Longtime Facebook fans are finding it incredibly difficult to believe that American Idol’s 500th episode has arrived. But that’s exactly what happened the other day, when all those involved with the show celebrated a huge milestone. While the 500th episode party included a heavy dose of praise from a number of famous American Idol fans, producers were still forced to keep the majority of the focus on the remaining three contestants: Jena Irene, Alex Preston and Caleb Johnson.
For the battle of the top three, the competitors were asked to perform three different songs: one selected by mentor Randy Jackson, one chosen by the judges and one old favorite requested by hometown fans. Viewers largely agreed that Alex Preston’s performances were most impressive of the night, although Jena Irene came in a close second. Many expected that Caleb Johnson would be the next contestant to go.
Regardless of the identity of next week’s finalists, it’s clear that American Idol has accomplished quite a bit over the course of its 500 episodes. Randy Jackson said it best when he told Twitter followers, “500th @AmericanIdol show tonight! Wow. Time flies.”
What did you think of American Idol’s 500th episode? Do you think the show will be around for another 500 episodes? Or is its end finally approaching? Feel free to share your opinion in the comments section below!
