Last year, when Maksim Chmerkovskiy revealed that he was taking a break from Dancing With The Stars, the ballroom dancer’s dedicated Facebook fans found it nearly impossible to continue watching the show. They may face this same problem in the future, for, following a brief return for season eighteen, Maks is ready to ditch DWTS once again!
When Maksim Chmerkovskiy first announced his intention to return to Dancing With The Stars for season eighteen, many viewers assumed that he’d be back for good. But in retrospect, it looks like Maks simply wanted to snag that mirror ball trophy — and once he accomplished this, he figured that he’d finally leave the show behind.
This intention was apparent in a recent People interview; Maks admitted that dance wasn’t his originally career choice, although, once he wound up on the stage, he felt committed to that path. “Until you get to that end result, you have to work hard and you have to do your best.”
Finally, after twelve seasons, Maks managed to win the mirror ball trophy, thanks to his incredible partnership with Meryl Davis. The dancer obviously feels he’s achieved the ultimate “end result,” and, as such, wishes to make his official exit while he’s still on top. When asked by ET whether he intended to return in the future, the pro admitted, “I don’t think so. This is exhausting.”
Perhaps Maks’ biggest objection to returning to DWTS involves being torn away from Meryl. During the finale, the dancer told his Twitter followers, “Wish I had another 100 weeks of dancing with @meryl_davis.”
