Phil Robertson’s New Anti-Gay Sermon Ruffles Feathers

May 23, 2014 06:39 AM by Stephanie Gustafson

We assumed that the huge Phil Robertson controversy was over when A&E decided to bring back Duck Dynasty, but that might not be the case. Facebook critics are pointing to a recently released video of an Easter sermon as proof that, not only did Robertson mean one hundred percent of what he said in GQ, he’s still willing to put his show at risk by making inflammatory remarks.

Nobody truly thought that Phil Robertson had reversed his stance on homosexuality, but few expected that he would continue to adamantly defend his beliefs in public. Of course, as Duck Dynasty Twitter fans like to point out, Robertson has the right to say whatever he wants, whether in an interview with GQ or during a church service. But A&E producers are also allowed to terminate the Robertsons, particularly if they feel that this family’s public conduct goes against the network’s values.

The latest Duck Dynasty debacle revolves around a very controversial sermon, in which Robertson defended everything he said in his fateful GQ interview. He also blamed the media for the uproar that followed these comments, complaining, “Instead of acknowledging their sin, like you had better do, they railed against me for giving them the truth about their sins.”

The reality star proceeded to defend his beliefs by quoting a verse from Corinthians. He also explained, “The news media didn’t even know it was a verse! They thought I was just mouthing off.”

Now that Robertson has reaffirmed his stance, critics are once again calling for his removal from A&E. The Duck Dynasty patriarch has survived through one media firestorm — can he do it again?

What do you think of the latest Phil Robertson controversy? Should the Duck Dynasty star be allowed to speak his mind without fearing retribution from A&E? Feel free to share your opinion in the comments section below!
