Facebook fans adore Derek Hough for his amazing choreography and good looks, but they are also impressed by his eagerness to stick up for those less fortunate. The Dancing With The Stars pro regularly makes a point of speaking out on behalf of bullying victims, and now, he’s being honored for his anti-bullying commitment.
Derek Hough has been known to speak out against bullying, as was the case when he denounced Abby Lee Miller, but typically, the Dancing With The Stars fan favorite shares his messages of love and acceptance with the help of his outstanding choreography. This commitment has already been applauded on Twitter, but now, Derek is also receiving official recognition from the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN).
While announcing Derek Hough’s award, the GLSEN complimented the dancer and choreographer for not being afraid “to use his craft to give voice to those less fortunate.” Derek’s new book was also mentioned, as the reality star had used this publication to speak out against bullying. GLSEN referred to the book as a “testament to the power of a strong work ethic, dedication to one’s craft and a spirit of perseverance.”
This is just one of several awards Derek Hough has received as of late. The Dancing With The Stars pro is accustomed to mirror ball trophies, but he has also been honored with Emmy nominations for his choreography and even a nomination with Mark Ballas for Best Bromance. This latest award, however, may be one of his most significant.
