Several of the young women featured on Teen Mom have battled mental illness and addiction, and Catelynn Lowell is certainly no exception. The reality star has grown increasingly comfortable with sharing the details from her struggle, especially in the aftermath of Robin Williams’ tragic suicide.
Facebook fans regard Catelynn Lowell as a very inspiring figure, especially in light of the uphill battle she’s faced as a young mother struggling with depression. In the past, the reality star wanted nothing more than to hide her issues, but today, she understands that, by bringing her problems out into the open, she just might convince others to seek help.
After news of Robin Williams’ suicide hit headlines, Catelynn offered up a touching confession on Twitter and Instagram. The Teen Mom star admitted, “It’s not a joke, I struggle with depression/anxiety on the daily! We are not alone…there is help out in the world.”
Catelynn later expanded on this message during an interview with In Touch. She revealed that, while she still is plagued by depression, her mental illness issues were far more severe in the past. Last year, Catelynn began to experience debilitating panic attacks in the middle of the night, which, ultimately, resulted in a crippling case of depression. Her recovery did not begin until Tyler Baltierra called a psychiatrist.
After visiting the psychiatrist, Catelynn was prescribed Zoloft and Abilify. The celebrity also began speaking with a counselor in hopes of hastening her recovery. One year later, she’s feeling much better. The reality star was proud to tell In Touch, ”I’ve been taking my meds and talking to someone regularly, and it’s gotten easier.”
