After the Phil Robertson controversy that ruffled feathers last year, A&E announced that Robertson would would address the comments that landed him in hot water, in his upcoming book. Now, the Duck Dynasty patriarch is opening up his new book, and admits that despite what you may think of his comments, he doesn’t “hate” anyone.
Phil Robertson’s Facebook and Twitter fans have been standing behind the Duck Dynasty patriarch ever since his bible quoting landed him in hot water, even causing him to get a short suspension from the show last year. Now, nearly a year later, Robertson still stands by everything he said, but feels he was misunderstood. And in his new book, UnPHILtered: The Way I See It, Robertson will address the controversy.
In a recent interview with ABC, Robertson said that people can, “Read the book and decide for themselves. But people need to get in their heads that I don’t hate anybody.” When asked is he was homophobic, Robertson insisted: “I’m as much of a homophobe as Jesus was. The people that are participating in homosexual behavior need to know that I love them.” As for his supposed racial remarks, Robertson addressed those as well, saying, “There is only one race – the human race. We’re all the same.”
Robertson also explained that his life has not been free of sin, either. Phil admitted that until he found Jesus, he was an alcoholic and a womanizer, and he is not proud of that behavior.
What do you think of Phil Robertson’s comments? Will you buy his new book? We know you have an opinion and we want to hear it, so feel free to sound off in the comments section below!
