Breaking Bonaduce - Danny Slashes His Wrists

When we left Danny on the streets of Hollywood, he was ringing Gretchen’s cell phone off the hook, railing against her having male strippers at her 40th Birthday. When he finally gets her on the phone, she refuses to allow him to dictate what she can and can’t do at her own party. In a huff, Gretchen practically hangs up on him. Moments later Danny has a violent outburst of volcanic proportions. In a rage, he begins menacing the crew on the production, threatening to go to the party and assault people if the strippers are allowed to perform. Breaking Bonaduce airs on VH1 on Sunday, October 9, 2005 at 10PM ET.

After several hours of erratic and violent behavior, Danny eventually breaks down in tears, confessing that he’s completely lost control of his mind and his life. Later that evening, in a cry for help, Danny slashes his wrists. The next day, in a final act of madness, Danny accuses Dr. Garry of conspiring to turn Gretchen against him.

What we have here is a failure to communicate….. But not in the sense of words said but from words understood.

Danny seems to be able to express himself about his problem although he does not ever define the correct problem. His problem is his need to be attached to his circumstances the ones he claims are important. He places alcohol and drugs in the path of his attachment disorder.

What we are really watching is a case of full blown adult RAD. Here is your free diagnosis. The alcohol and drugs are just tools he uses to get a reaction he understands, rejection. What you need to get through is the Bi-polar and the alcohol and drugs and TREAT the RAD. Now this is a tall order and will require someone with the empathy and understanding (not insight). A warmth and authenticity that Danny respects. This will be non-threatening, non-judgmental, yet this will not be enough. It will require more; someone strong enough to hold Danny’s grief; while that someone holds his grief; Danny will be free to work through his decades old problem of attachment.

One more point - FIRE Dr. Garry Corgiat! He is incompetent ill-informed and better suited a 900 psychic hot line and NOT taking care of people with the level of reality sobriety psychological disorder as Danny.

danny loves being a misfit - he actually seems to thrive on it and wallow in it

for an adult to act as he does in reality world is a shame….I’m sure GOD is getting him real good for never cleaning up his act

I’ve been sober 18 years, the only way this dude is going to make it is intensive AA, a lasting spiritual conversion, full restituion and apologies to the people he’s harmed and an extreme psychic shift. He’s a very fucked up human being, but there’s hope.

I can’t believe that she stayed married to him. It’s so obvious that he’s a danger to himself. I wouldn’t allow anyone like that around my kids. As much as I hate to admit it, that was the best episode!

I just can’t believe the nerve of him. He can go screw trash but his wife can’t have a stripper at her 40th birthday party? What a hypocrit!

You guys all seem to buy into the idea that this show is reality. I don’t believe for a minute that half of this stuff isn’t staged for the program. Danny is an actor. He plays to the camera.
