Brewer needs to slap his bitch around a little bit and shut her up. I hope forbes knocks Brewer out for no other reason than to silence her loud ass, annoying face. Seriously though, all joking aside, they should keep wives and girlfriends out of the arena if they can’t sit in their seats. I guess it’s entertaining to some people, but some are ridiculous.
September 20th, 2006 at 8:20 am
What a joke! The first fight was close but who do they have judging? The judges seemed to have counted every punch 2pnd threw as a scoring punch. Sugar Ray and his crew have definitely taken lessons from all the fight fixing they experienced in his hay day! The second fight was a complete disgrace to boxing judges. How can a guy who scores a knockdown and wins the round 2-1 in a five round fight lose without getting knocked down or out in the remainder of the fight? What a waste of my time watching this garbage! I feel bad for the guys who should have won the fight instead they get to go home with a gold boxing glove necklace around their neck. What a joke! Sugar Ray ought to be embarassed by this fix. Shame on you Sugar Ray, I guess you have to pay for that big house you took the kids to see.

Yes, the judging seemed lopsided, the key word here being “seemed.”
I’d submit that this has more to do with The Contender being a Mark Burnett production, than with any throwback to the judging fixes that were a given in the past.
I’m not implying at all that Burnett is fixing anything, but rather employing the “red herring” editing technique generate surprise and provoke controversy, much like with Survivor. Using the Survivor example, does the “likely loser” of any given episode ever get voted off the island?

Have you lost your mind? Anyone who believes Bravo won the bravo-grady fight is delusional. That was the most artful and beautiful display of terrific boxing I have seen in a long, long, time. Wonderful is Grady. We watch all fights in slow motion and count every punch. Bravo did knock him down, almost out, but had been losing and frustrated up to that point, almost never able to connect on Grady at all.. until. Then when Bravo did that degrading move over to taunt the children and wife of Grady… Grady found the strength to get back up and exhibit the best boxing skill I have seen in many years. It rivals and perhaps exceeds Sugar Rays long lost abilities. Bravo’s rage hurt him. If he had not taunted those kids and his wife… I don’t think Grady would have gotten back up.
There is always so much bias and racism in Judging againt Black fighters because they are naturally stronger, faster, more agile and more coordinated… others are jealous of these abilties…. thus discrimination is rampant

Forbes VS K9 fight:
When we watched this fight in slow motion, it was cleared to see that Forbes was not able to connect to K9 with almost any of his blows, he just ran in flailing wildly with his head down (like a little kid or a girl), charging in with his head while barely landed a glove at all on K9, throughout most the course of the entire match, this with the exception of perhaps the fourth round. Then in what must be described as an acting job only, Forbes feigned bravado in the fifth round, waving his hands quickly all around K9 missing (we counted them) every single punch. Look at this in slow mo and you’ll see he did not touch him even once. This is why K9 was surprised at the result. To not even get hit once. To beat the other guy for all first three rounds, then to lose? Then Forbes pranced around like he had really accomplished something and was unjustly given the victory. He’s a big fake. So is the result. It is stunts like this that cause the public to lose faith in the veracity of the show. Who is responsible for the judgement of this fight. We, the public, are watching to see a fair fight. (cc. to all blogs and message boards, with your reply)

Even reviewing the broadcast frame by frame wouldn’t provide an accurate measure of the “true” winner, as such a small portion of the five rounds is actually shown.
If ESPN picks up The Contender for a third season, I hope that they provide some way to view the uncut fights in their entirety, even as an Internet streaming video after the program airs in all markets.
Ideally, they’ll come up with some way to broadcast more than just the final match live. I liked what NBC did last year with the webcasts of the fan favorite fights.

Forbes VS K9 fight:
When watched this fight in slow motion, it was cleared to see that Forbes was not able to connect very well with his blows, flailing wildly with his head down, charging ahead while barely landed a glove on K9 throughout most the course of the entire match, this with the exception of perhaps the fourth round. Then in what must be described as an acting job, Forbes feigned bravado in the fifth round, waving his hands quickly all around K9 missing (we counted them) almost every single punch. Then he pranced around like he had really accomplished something and was unjustly given the victory. It is stunts like this that cause the public to lose faith in the veracity of the show. What’s all the Hype about Forbes? He displayed a very poor performance against my man k9.is this what you call a contender ?please!
K9 clearly won that fight.I just hope you dont steal the fight from my man Grady.Let’s keep it real!
September 22nd, 2006 at 3:03 pm
Dude, Ed/Chris/Edward, you keep posting the same thing over and over again. Steve Forbes won that fight. Fair and square. K9 stays in fights by holding superior and quicker opponents. Forbes had to throw many of his punches without looking because K9 kept holding him. There’s a reason why they have professional judges and not people at home scoring the matches. We have too many biases. Just crying “fix” every time your preferred fighter loses doesn’t change anything, no matter how many times you post it.
September 24th, 2006 at 5:03 am
To Steve or whomever: Maybe you just might need to view the fights again. We all know Walter lost. If anyone would take time to watch these fights in slow-motion, this would close the show on this matter. K9’s holding didn’t stop Forbes from looking. There’s no logic in that assertion. K9 still landed many more punches. It dosent matter how many time’s you scream judges and professionalism, the public has eyes for themself.
September 24th, 2006 at 3:47 pm
I just watched the rebroadcast of the Bravo/Grady fight and noticed that one of the judges scored it 49-46 for Grady. That means that he didn’t even credit Bravo with a two-point round for the solid knockdown.
I standby what I said earlier about the devil being in the editing. (Sorry Ed and Lorr, but contrary to your previous posting I never said or implied “fix,” or even expressed an opinion regarding the winner of the K-9 Forbes fight.)
Without access to the full-length rounds, who knows what the judges saw?
September 27th, 2006 at 12:11 am
Well Chris, despite all the Forbes Hype, look what happened! K9 and Grady, just as was explained. The thing is to learn to look at what is really happening as opposed to what one is told is happening. Despite pretense, slanting by the referee (different rules, for a favored fighter-Forbes) One must come to respect and realize that (as the boxers stated in their fights), the Grace of God is with these fighters. The boxers were too skilled, too strong, too quick, too smart, and too conditioned. Grady should have been given all of the rounds, but they tried to steal and slant it against him. This is a longstanding pattern in all sports. What does it say I wonder?
September 27th, 2006 at 12:33 am
For example Forbes was beaten throughout the seventh round got in one punch and was given the seventh round. Boy!
September 27th, 2006 at 12:44 am
Forbes did not win a round and one judge gave him a win for the whole fight, what does that tell us that we already know
September 27th, 2006 at 12:53 am
Forbes is such a bad sport to say he thinks the fight was close and that he thinks he won the fight. Still being the big baby living in a pretend world. That is so wrong to take away from Grady’s hard work and honest effort what a big liar, he really needs therapy treatment bad… his delusions of grandiosity deserve professional attention.
September 27th, 2006 at 8:29 am
OK! for one i love this show I wouldn’t miss any episode of it. And congradulations to the finale two steve forbes an grady brewer they both deserved two be the finale two. Also i wish both of them the best of luck because i can see it in there eyes they both really want this. Well i have one piece of advice for the both of them its not about who other people think is the better fighter, its about what you feel inside, you have to ask yourself who wants it more than the other. I wish there family’s the best of luck and who ever deserves it the most will surely win with the victory.Good Luck.
September 29th, 2006 at 7:48 am
forbes beat k-9, i feel k-9 but he got beat straight up. i would have gave k-9 2 rounds at max.
as for the bravo & grady fight. bravo obviosly won the 1st but then the other 4 were grady IMO. making it a 48-46 match
October 3rd, 2006 at 4:32 am
dam watching the contender from the first fight was great………………………………………i was hoping grady badboy brewer would win the final because he was always been bullied by the fighters so yea nice fight bro
October 4th, 2006 at 11:49 am
all you people that think that steve forbes deserved to win are idiots.he didnt even deserve to gt past k9.k9 i believe beat him and forbes was onli probably given the fight coz the judges had an eye for his girl or some bullshit like that.
K9 is the real contender
October 8th, 2006 at 11:42 pm
Peace! Let’s not offend anyone.
I`m a Brewer fan and I`m glad he won. I would like to watch Brewer X K9…
October 10th, 2006 at 11:30 am
Craig Watts (20 Sept) is out of order! How dare you refer to Brady’s wife as a bitch! You disrespect every woman out there and you have no righ to disrespect another man’s wife! Stop being so petty and ignorant and keep your eyes on the match! His wife wanted her man to win and couldn’t contain herself - so what!! Brady won the fight from start to finish - even I was screaming for him!!!
October 11th, 2006 at 7:05 pm
I thought it was surposed to be a boxing match, not count the punches Forbes should have won, all Brewer did was hold, the show was surposed to be about boxing not a dam fairy tale it was a fix.
October 11th, 2006 at 7:12 pm
I agree with Mr Watts Brady’s wife has a stupid big mouth and I was waiting for someone to plug it with something and kick her fat ass, I didn’t see the K9 vs Forbes fight so I can’t say anything on that but I did see the Forbes Vs Brady fight and Forbes definitely won that fight and the contender, Bradys’ punches looked ineffective to me agaisnt Forbes and I can’t see how the hell those two other judges came up with those BS scores, the eyes say it all and Bradys said he didn’t win it whilst Forbes did bla bla bla.
