We Never Saw That One Coming…Ali & Bette-Sue Eliminated from Biggest Loser

January 22, 2008 09:55:34 by Jennifer_Brown

Bette-Sue-&-Ali-Courtesy-NBCThis group of Biggest Losers has been way too nice to one another. Coming in with loved ones, everyone’s comfy and cozy — it’s like a big summer camp at the Biggest Loser campus this season. Not for long.

We join the contestants in the Elimination Room, having just axed Neill & Amanda. Alison tells them that Biggest Loser is about to “enter a new phase” (never good words…) and lays it on them that they’ll be making another big decision. “If you could vote off one team right now,” she says,”who would it be?”

“That sucks,” Bette-Sue answers.

Alison gives the teams a few moments to talk the decision over amongst themselves — with the one caveat that they may only discuss with their teammate and nobody else. The teams put their heads together, everyone struggling with the tough decision ahead. “It’s a no-win situation,” Maggie complains. Dan & Jackie worry about making a strong statement against super-brothers, Jay & Mark, even though they’d most like to see them gone.

After some time for consulting, the teams gather again in the Elimination Room to reveal who they’ve chosen. It’s close, but Paul & Kelly get the most votes (Kelly…*yawn*…cries again).

Alison tells the teams that this does not mean that Kelly & Paul are going home. Instead, Kelly & Paul will compete against all of the other teams tonight, in an All-Against-One game. At the end of the week, Kelly & Paul will go weight-loss percentage against everyone else. If their percentage beats the combined average percentage of the other teams (wait a sec…nobody told me there’d be math involved in this job…), they get to choose who is eliminated. If the combined average weight loss percentage of the other teams beats out Paul & Kelly’s weight loss percentage, Paul & Kelly go home. Because they’re the underdogs, Paul & Kelly get to choose their trainer for the week. They choose Jillian (oh, yeah!)

“You can definitely feel the tension in the house, and it’s not pretty,” says Jenn.

Back in the Yellow Team bedroom,Kelly…*yawn*…cries some more. But Paul goes all warrior on us, breaking out a martial arts uniform and gettin’ in the zone (do I hear Kung Fu Fighting in the background?). “There is no place for second best here,” he tells Kelly. “If I get a chance to take one of them out, I will.”

In the meantime, Paul & Kelly get to collect their Biggest Loser Team of the Week reward. As they hike up the mountain, they deliberate: Luxury, Family, or Gameplay. Kelly really wants Luxury, but Paul’s no dummy — he prevails and they choose Gameplay. They get to add two pounds to the scale at any given weigh-in.

Suddenly Paul’s all about strategy — doing his homework at night when nobody’s around to see him, befriending other teams to gain their trust, keeping their Team of the Week prize under wraps…Like I said, no dummy.

The teams then gather for their All-Against-One Challenge, and greet Alison beside a giant swimming pool with two balance beams stretched over it. Their challenge: each team must race across the balance beam, grab a foam peg, race back across the board, and plug the peg into a board (where there are holes for 12 pegs). The first team to fill his (or their) board wins. There is a catch — every team member must put in at least one peg. The prize for the winner of this challenge will be letters from home.

Paul rocks the challenge, getting his 12 pegs in before the other team can even get their sixth one in. But in a super-friendly gesture (super-friendly ina super-smart, alliance-forming,manipulative sort of gesture way, that is), Paul & Kelly decide to forgo their prize and let the other teams all have their letters instead.

Bob, by the way, isn’t fooled. “What I smell is heavy gameplay,” he muses. And he’s right. Paul & Kelly cook up an alliance with Dan & Jackie, Jenn & Maggie, and Brittany & Bernie that goes something like this: you guys throw the weigh-in, and we’ll vote out Jay & Mark for you. Bob may have his suspicions, but he’s in no way going to condone any alliances, telling his team in no uncertain terms that he expects to be kept in the loop. “The last thing you want to do is make me look like an idiot,” he threatens, tossing in an extra somethin’-somethin’ about jumping up on the scale and rippin’any offenders’heads off.

[Pause here for opening of letters and much crying and sobbing and wiping of the eyes]

It’s time for the dreaded weigh-in. And I do mean dreaded, for just about everyone. Nobody feels safe tonight, a feeling that’s made worse when Alison blows up the alliance plan by announcing that the Biggest Loser Team of the Week will receive, as their reward, immunity from tonight’s elimination.

Wow, there are some major big numbers on the board tonight (Roger & Trent put up a 25-pound loss!), but not for our sneaky alliance members. Dan & Jackie, twice named Team of the Week, put up a measly combined three pounds tonight, allowing Paul & Kelly to decimate the competish and stay in the game. Mark suspects “100% gameplay,” and vows “consequences” for Paul & Kelly’s actions (okay, it has to be said…Mark’s a little on the scary side.).

In the Elimination Room, Kelly…*yawn*…cries again, and tries to explain that she and Paul were going after the teams who’d voted them out. She tries to apologize but Bette-Sue and Ali, clearly ticked, cut her off. Kelly reveals that she and Paul are, indeed, eliminating Bette-Sue & Ali.

Ali says they’re the “first team to get unjustly sent home.” Bette-Sue snarks, “There’s a lot of fakes goin’ on. If you’re gonna play the game, play it honestly.”

After the Pink Team takes their leave, Alison drops another bomb on the contestants. Next week, one team will lose their partner.

Today, Ali has lost 61 pounds and Bette-Sue has dropped an awesome 49 pounds. “Biggest Loser gave me my life back,” Ali says.
