MTV Planning to Rock the Cradle

February 11, 2008 09:31:36 by Jennifer_Brown

MTV-LogoJust last week, Frances Bean Cobain, daughter of Hole’s Courtney Love and the late Nirvana rocker Kurt Cobain, stepped out of nowhere and into the pages of Harper’s Bazaar. She wanted her statement made loud and clear: she’s not her parents, and wants to be known for her own accomplishments. MTV and Fremantle Media (the producers of American Idol) are one step ahead of Frances on this front, and they’re putting together the reality show to prove it.

The two television giants have teamed up to create a new singing competition-style reality show (think American Idol for celeb kids), tentatively titled Rock the Cradle, which will feature talented kids of famous performers who want to grab fame of their own right.

Because the official announcement has yet to be made, an official cast list has not been released, though some names of possible contestants are being unofficially tossed around — tops on that list being James Garfunkel, the 17-year old son of singing star Art Garfunkel.

MTV is no-doubt hopeful that this foray into celebrity offspring reality TV will pan out for them better than their last try. In 2003, MTV aired Rich Girls, a show about celebrity children such as Ally Hilfiger who keep their parents’ stardom on the DL, refusing to cash in on Mom and Dad’s fame. The show only lasted one season.

The official announcement for Rock the Cradle is expected to be made next week, with a possible April premiere in the works. Check back with Reality TV Magazine for the cast list and details as they’re announced.
