How about The Shark Tank?

Survivor producer, Mark Burnett, has announced that he will be teaming up with Sony Pictures Television to bring an American version of a Japanese reality TV show to fruition. The new show will be called The Shark Tank, and will be based on the Japanese hit, The Dragon’s Den.

The Shark Tank — sort of American Inventor meets American Idol, with a dash of The Apprentice sprinkled in for good measure — has entrepreneurs bringing their ideas and dreams before a panel of tough business moguls (Otherwise known as The Sharks) in hopes that the pros will agree to invest money in the proposed business venture.

“It’s about seeing people squirm, either in their unpreparedness or their lies,” Burnett said in a recent interview, adding that the show should look a bit like the early versions of American Idol. “People come in with an idea they think is brilliant, and it’s awful,” Burnett said. “But then you get the truly inspired ideas, and the Sharks have a chance to fight it out.”

The Burnett/Sony Pictures alliance has been a long time coming, with Sony hoping that the relationship will help them satisfy their desire to “ramp up” their reality TV presence.

No word yet on a time line for The Shark Tank. Stay tuned to Reality TV Magazine for updates as they come available.
