Project Runway to Bravo: Auf wiedersehen!

They can’t “make it work, people!”

Project Runway producer The Weinstein Company is telling Bravo goodbye, having signed a five-year deal with the Lifetime Network. And NBC is none too happy about it, and is taking the matter to the New York Supreme Court. The allegations? Here’s NBC’s official statement on the matter:

“NBC Universal has continuing legal rights related to “Project Runway,” including a right of first refusal to future cycles of the series, which The Weinstein Company unfortunately has refused to honor. NBC Universal regrettably had no alternative but to bring legal action to enforce its rights to this program, including the right to decide whether it is in the best interest of the company to continue to air the show under the proposed financial terms.”

But the deal has been inked and preparations are already underway to air season 6 of Project Runway on Lifetime in November. This could get interesting, as season 5 — still Bravo’s — has yet to air. With season 4 having just ended, season 6 set to launch in November, and a mysterious season 5 somewhere in between…are you thinking what I’m thinking…three PR’s in one year…? Now, that’s FIERCE!

Rumor has it that PR host Heidi Klum and fashion guru Tim Gunn are planning to make the move over to Lifetime, but no word yet on whether Nina Garcia and Michael Kors will follow their lead.

Lifetime, not named in NBC’s suit, doesn’t appear to be too concerned about NBC’s claims, calling the suit “without merit.”
