After Paula Abdul offered feedback on two of Jason Castro’s songs when he had only sung one, it didn’t take long for American Idol fans to swarm the official American Idol message board with accusations that the show is rigged. Many fans were confused over how Paula Abdul could have possibly known that she wouldn’t like Jason’s second song, when he had yet to perform it.
Some fans suggested that Paula Abdul’s comments were proof that the show is rigged. One theory put forth by fans is that Paula’s comments showed that producers tell the judges what opinions to have about various contestants. This theory suggests that it is producers who decide which contestants are praised or criticized, which helps determine who eventually wins the competition.
However, other fans pointed out that the contestants do dress rehearsals of theirs songs before the actual performance show. In fact, during the second Beatles week, Paula Abdul told Michael Johns, “I was able to catch a little sound from dress rehearsal, and you were pretty phenomenal then.”
Another theory is that Paula Abdul took notes based on what she saw in dress rehearsal. Because Ryan Seacrest initially claimed that the contestants would be judged after their second song, Paula was probably caught off guard when Ryan asked for feedback after their first song. This confusion led Paula to start reading off her notes, which included her thoughts on both songs from the dress rehearsal.
While the second theory can ease fans’ fears that the show might be rigged by producers, it raises another alarming concern. Even though the producers might not be directing the judges on what opinions to have, the judges might be making up their minds about the contestants’ performances during the rehearsals. If the judges have already formed pre-scripted opinions based on rehearsal, then it might not matter how well the contestants perform during the actual show.
Yet another theory is that Paula Abdul was reading her notes on another finalist when she was talking about Jason Castro’s second performance. Paula Abdul did say, “You know what, I’m looking at, it’s your notes, David, you’re fantastic, and it was the song that wasn’t known.” However, most fans aren’t buying this explanation. Since Paula raved about David Cook later in the show, it doesn’t add up that her negative comments about Jason Castro’s second song were really her notes on David Cook.

Well is the show rigged or not? Or does Paula have a written script from Simon (his company produces, SYCO, American Idol with 19TV)?
You just have to watch the way Simon watches her every word and this is not the first time she sounded like she has had a few too many drinks before work!
I really don’t expect her to be seen on the next season, she is becoming too dangerous for the producers and could turn American Idol into a comedy show more then a talent show.

They practice the songs once before the show goes on, so they had already performed both songs for her once already.
If you look closely at the footage (I record it with my cable box) you can clearly see that there are differences in their live performance and the recap video at the end of the show. The recap video is recorded during their practice sessions, and then edited prior to the end of the show.
So, she just forgot that she was supposed to “act” like it was the first time she heard both songs live…not as strange as they are trying to make it.

I noticed that Simon hangs onto her words also, but it looks to me that it is out of intrigue more than anything else! Maybe he is secretly smitten with her…(WHO KNOWS)
Thanks for the re-cap…I missed this show and all the drama. (WHO KNEW)
I guess you shouldn’t blink or you might miss something! I am so glad you keep us in the know!!!
