David Archuleta Debuts At No. 2 On The Billboard 200

Seventh season, American Idol runner up, David Archuleta’s self-titled debut album sold 183,000 copies during the first week of its release and debuted at No.2 on the Billboard 200 album sales chart according to Nielsen Soundscan data. His debut sales were even higher than that of the sixth season runner-up Blake Lewis, who sold 98,000 copies of his debut album, “Audio Day Dream” the first week it was released, debuting at No.10.

The only other Idol runner-ups that have out sold Archuleta in the first week are the fourth season runner-up Bo Bice who sold 227,000 copies of his debut, “The Real Thing” and debuted at No.4 and of course the second season runner-up, Clay Aiken who had the highest selling debut ever with his album, “Measure of a Man” which sold 613,000 copies its first week and debuted as No.1 on the Billboard 200.

Archuleta’s debut is the best for an Idol alumnus since former third-season finalist Jennifer Hudson’s self-titled debut dropped at No. 2 after selling 217,000 units during its initial week of release last month.

The first single from Archuleta’s debut “Crush” currently sits at No. 22 on The Billboard Hot 100 single sales chart. It made its debut at No. 2 on the Hot 100 during its initial week of release in August.

Not bad for a seventeen year-old!
