Heidi and Spencer Not Legally Married Afterall

For a fame hungry couple, there is nothing like a secret marriage to get your name in the magazines and The Hills stars, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt did just that this past week when news of their elopment in Mexico leaked out. Well, the wedding was not legal as the couple not only forgot to obtain a marriage license, they also did not take part in a separate civil ceremony which is required in Mexico to make the union binding. Surprise, surprise!

Not only did the couple claim to be married, US magazine splashed their pic on the cover of their magazine. There was no information stating that the union was not legal so maybe they didn’t know!

With friends in shock and congratulating them and Heidi’s father in an uproar that he was not consulted, the couple was probably guilted into telling everyone the truth. Last Wednesday they admitted that their wedding ceremony near Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, was in-fact symbolic, not legal. In a statement, the couple said:

“We had a beautiful ceremony here…officiated by a minister and photographed by the hotel photographer. We’ve never been happier. And, like other elopements that happen outside the country, we’ll take care of the legal details when we get home.”

There was no word on when the legal nuptials would take place in the States, probably after Heidi’s father gets a chance to calm down from the shock of the fake marriage!

When the news broke about the elopement, MTV seemed as shocked as everyone and congratulated the couple on their marriage, but now it appears that they just happened to be in town to shoot it all for season 5 of The Hills? A full photo spreadof theceremony at the chapel was also captured.

The Hills executive producer Liz Gately stated, “Fans will be able to see the exclusive footage from the ceremony in an upcoming episode, and we will continue to follow the newlyweds’ relationship as it plays out in real life.”

Now that’s the way to keep people watching your show!
