Underdog To Wonderdog: Animal Planet’s Feel Good Reality TV Show

If you are a dog lover, Animal Planet has just the show for you! Underdog to Wonderdog premiered on Saturday evening at 8 PM ET and is sure to become a family favorite. With the Doggie Wonder Team on hand, The show’s premise is to find homeless dogs, rehabilitate them and match them with a family who will love them forever.

The first episode features a Yorkshire Terrier that had been the victim of a hit and run in Brooklyn. Due to the high cost of the medical bills to fix the dog’s broken pelvis, the family give their pet up to a shelter. The dog who is re-named Lucky, has many issues, including anxiety and stress and when the Wonder Team arrive they realize that the trauma and shock the dog has experienced from the hit and run needs to be addressed before the dog could ever be considered a candidate for adoption.

The Wonder Team take action as host Ryan Smith takes her to a vet to to begin her rehabilitation and get her health back in check. After Lucky gets a clean bill of health, Andrea Arden, the expert trainer, works with Lucky to build her strength and then moves on to obedience training for the anxiety ridden Yorkshire Terrier. Lucky is then given an adeqate hair cut by the grooming queen, Ali McLennan, who shows her doggy hair designing ability later in the show, when she gives Lucky a hair-do fit for a queen, complete with black and white doggy bows. No dog can live without a place of their own and that is where David Leon comes in. The canine carpenter builds Lucky a private mini-park and posh palace in her new family’s backyard.

Under the care of the Wonder Team, Lucky goes from becoming a frightened, anxiety ridden, unadoptable dog to a happy, well-trained pet, ready for a new home.

The dog is adopted by a family that is chosen by the Wonder Team and in the end, one happy little eight year old girl has a new best friend for life.

Underdog to Wonderdog is feel good reality TV and is one reality series that is definately fit for the whole family!

A new episode of Underdog to Wonderdog airs every Saturday at 8 PM ET on Animal Planet.  Lucky’s episode will run again at 7 PM ET next Saturday, January 10, 2009.
