Dancing With The Stars: Maksim Chmerkovskiy And Karina Smirnoff Talk About Their Engagement

Dancing With the Stars Pros, Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Karina Smirnoff rang in the New Year by getting engaged and this week they are telling the world just how happy they are! The couple spoke to People magazine about their relationship and just how great it is to be in love.

“I’m in love and so is she,” Maksim Chmerkovskiy told people adding, “Everything is beautiful.”

Karina Smirnoff then chimed in, “He is such a softie. The way he proposed was so romantic.”

As the 2009 New Year’s bell rang, Maksim Chmerkovskiy gave Karina Smirnoff a beautiful three-karat Harry Winston platinum and diamond engagement ring, which he tucked inside of a Louis Vuitton bag.

The news of the engagement was a surprise to some people, as Karina Smirnoff only recently broke off her 2 year relationship with Mario Lopez a mere7 months ago.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Karina Smirnoff confessed though that they have known each other for years as competitive ballroom dancers and It was only four months ago (two months after Karina Smirnoff and Mario Lopez split) that they decided to explore a romantic relationship. They chose not to release the news to the press until their engagement.

The couple are currently on the Dancing With the Stars tour and will both be returning to ABC on March 9, when the show kicks off it’s eight season. It will be interesting to see if host Tom Bergeron congratulates them publicly whenDancing With the Stars premieres.
