American Idol: Melinda Doolittle Releases Her First CD

You can’t help but love Melinda Doolittle! She was thesoul singing sweetheart contestant, who finished as the third place finalist on American Idol 6. Prior to her appearance on American Idol , Melinda Doolittle worked as a professional back-up singer for a number of big time singing sensations such as Michael McDonald, Kirk Franklin, Aaron Neville, BeBe and CeCe Winans, Alabama, Jonny Lang, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, and Anointed to name a few. Now Melinda Doolittle is stepping into the limelight with the release of her first CD recorded by Hi Fi Recordings!

The CD titled, Coming Back To You, is a combination of soul and R&B produced by the Grammy-nominated Mike Mangini who has produced for Joss Stone, Jonas Brothers, Dionne Warwick and even another American Idol contestant, Elliott Yamin. The CD was recorded with a band of live musicians in both Nashville and New York City. The CD which is said to have a vintage soul sound with a little grit added is sure to have a Johnny Lang vibetoo as he is Melinda Doolittle’s favorite singer.

Melinda Doolittle sat down with Black Voices and told them that there is one singer that she has met that had a huge impact on her. She said that meeting Glady’s Knight on American Idol was one of the hugest moments for her and that when Glady’s Knight said, “When I watch you, I see that you tell a story in your songs and it’s like reading a book,” it inspired her to continue to tell a story in a song, but instead of her song just being a book, she wants to make it a movie! She saidthat the comment from Gladys Knight has changed her approach as she sings on stage and in the studio.

Melinda Doolittle is not only a singer, once a month she is featured on a web show called Moments With Melinda where fans can call and talk to her. She also took part in the book Chicken Soup for the American Idol Soul.

Coming Back to You will be released tomorrow and features a collection of thirteen songs. Some of the songs include “Declaration of Love,” “Coming Back to You,” “Wonderful,” “Dust My Broom,” “Walkin’ Blues,” “I’ll Never Stop Loving You,” and “Wonder Why.”
