American Idol: Will They Showcase Adam Lambert As Being Gay?

So far this season, American Idol has showcased the contestants each week, allowing viewers a glimpseinto their private lives. One contestant though,may not have his private life showcased during the show because he is gay!

American IdolTop 12 contestant Adam Lambert, is apparently openly gay, but so far the show has not made any reference of his sexual orientation. He has been referred to by Paula Abdul as being “flamboyant” and that is as far as it has gone.

Adam Lambert has had pictures posted numerous times on the internet in the past weeks of him kissing another man and in a YouTube video of a New Year’s Eve performance, Adam refers to his sexual preference himself when he talks about a female co-star saying, “I’ve gotten to kiss those lips, and although it’s not necessarilymy preference…”

Maybe Adam Lambert has not made his sexuality known on the showbecause he is well awareofAmerican Idol’s history of discouraging gay contestants from showing their sexual orientation.During season 1, top 10 finalist Jim Verraros was forced to take down gay-themed comments on an American Idol-sponsored website and last year onseason 7,David Hernandez was voted off the show when it was revealed that he had been a stripper in a gay dance club.

American Idol has yet to have an openly gay finalist during the show and the contestants that are gay such as Jim Verarrosand Clay Aiken, have come out later.

It will be interesting to see how American Idol handles this situation over the next few weeks and if Adam Lambert does come out of the closet, whether it will have an effect on how America votes for him…David Hernandez was vote off for stripping at a male gay bar remember!

   If you are going to quote him, please quote him accurately. He said “not neccessarily my preference.” Yes, that one word does make a difference. The word “necessarily” makes it more ambigious. And that is what Adam is. Undefined. Maybe he is gay, maybe he is bi-sexual. But you are doing shoddy journalism by not quoting him accurately. Also, the photos you site came from the Burning Man festival, where everyone is dressed outrageously, men and women, and they are there to celebrate freedom. Just saying, be careful when you quote.

   So, if they “showcase” Adam Labert’s gayness, will they “showcase” everyone else’s sexuality too? Let’s be fair - I want to hear all about everyone’s sexual preferences. Who cares about if they can sing or not.

   Now, if they only talk about the gayness of Adam, that’s reverse discrimination in ignoring how everyone else has sex and that is just not right!

   I think Adam Lambert is a wholesome person. First of all his singing voice is magical. I haven’t heard anyone hitting notes up, down, high, low like Adam does. And he is visually pleasant, captivating, and his charisma is fantastic. He moves very well. Let’s not be too critical or discriminating about his sexual preference…I think that’s being shallow & a bigot! He radiates, he’s natural, he’s exudes niceness, fun, joy, energy. I’ll definitely vote for him 100%. Btw, I love those sparkling blue eyes (very expressive), & that big wonderful smile.

   There was no discrimination at all intended for Adam’s sexual preference. As a mother of a gay son, I think that it is awesome that Adam is on the show. I think that American Idol has done the right thing and showcased Adam for his musical talents and not his sexual preference it is interesting to see that television is not as open about his life though, as they were the other contestants. Someday maybe society will not feel the need to hide the personal life of a gay contestant as they never felt the need to hide that some were single mothers etc. I think he would have gone all of the way regardless and I hope that if he wins, he doesn’t try to hide that side of himself as Clay Aiken did just to please the fans!
