American Idol: Is Lil Going To Make It Another Round?

Last night’s American Idolperformances were all across the spectrum. From Adam Lambert’s over the top renditionof Born To Be Wild all the way to Kris Allen’s lullaby-like serenade Falling Slowly, it was an interesting night. Although there were many great performances, there are a couple contestants that just can’t seem to get a break…

It was another night of mixed reviews for Lil Rounds. She performed the Bette Midler powerballad The Rose, and put her own R&B/ gospel spin on it, which she thought would bring out her “artistry” as requested by the judges. However, Simon Cowellstill wasn’t pleased. Shocker. When Lil defended herself he had nothing to say except “it’s still a Bette Midler song,” referring to the fact that she still didn’t make it entirely her own.

Week after week, Lil has received harsh criticism about being “karaoke.” Will this be the last straw? I thought she did a very good job with the song and she did change it up a bit, but it seems the judges still want more. Well, not everyone can be Adam Lambert.

Another one who failed to please was Matt Giraud. Kara told him that he keeps switching from rocker to soulful jazz artist and he can’t seem to find his niche. One week he’s on top of the world and the next week he’s just your ordinary guy singing a bad cover of Viva La Vida. Danny Gokey did alright vocally, but he still lacks the ability to really change a song. Last night, Simon reminded Danny of when David Cook did his version of the Lionel Richie songHello, and how much better it was than when Danny sang Endless Love.

Well, as usual, it’s anyone’s guess who’s going home. But I have a sneaky suspicion that it might be one of these three.Stay tuned tonight for the live results show, with appearances from Miley Cyrus and Jennifer Hudson!
