Tonight on American Idol, the Top 7 were narrowed down to the Top 6 and for the contestants it was all on the line. Who went home tonight and who stayed to perform another week?

Ryan Seacrestbegan the showby telling the viewers that Miley Cyrus would be on the show tonight performing her latest single and American Idol alum, Jennifer Hudson would also be on the show, or should we say, had pre-taped her performance for the show tonight. We were treated to the Ford video which was set to the song Freeze Frame. The video was cute with all of the contestants on the covers of magazines at a news stand.

The lucky Top 7 came out and performed their group song to Maniac from the movie Flash Dance. The song once again appeared to be live and other than a few flops during the solo parts, the group song was pretty well done this week. Then, the drama began!

Ryan Seacrest had the lights dimmed and asked Allison Iraheta to stand. After leading her on a bit, he told her that she was indeed safe this week. He then picked on Adam Lambert and just like Allison, he was also safe this week. Anoop Desai was the next contestant standing tonight and after being in the bottom three last week he took the walk across the stage to the stools of doom one more time.

American Idol then showed video footage of Jennifer Hudson’s journey on American Idol and beyond and she sang If This isn’t Love off her self-titled debut album. Jennifer Hudson said that she was very happy to return to the American Idol stage and when Ryan Seacrest asked her when her wedding date was, she told him that it is a secret. He already new that, as he asked her the same question previously in an interview. I guess he wanted to see if Jennifer Hudson had changed her mind about sharingher big day with the world…nope!

It was back to business and Ryan Seacrest once again dimmed the lights to send two more people to join Anoop in the silver stools of doom. Kris Allen and Lil were asked to stand and after Ryan Seacrest interviewed them he told them that Kris was safe and could return to the couch and Lil Rounds was asked to join Anoop in the bottom three. Matt Giraud and Danny Gokey were the next to get the news of the night and this week Matt was in the bottom three while Danny was safe again.

Kara DioGuardi was asked if this was the right group to be in the bottom three and she said that she agreed with the viewers choice this week. Paula Abdul said that it is getting harder each weekas we are now getting closer to the end, while Randy Jacksonnodded in agreement. Anoop, Lil and Matt joined Ryan Seacrestat center stage and Anoop was let off the hook and told that he could take a break and go back to his seat.

Miley Cyrus then performed her single, The Climb while Lil andMatt awaited their fate.

Ryan Seacrest then asked Simon Cowell if there was anyone in the bottom two who deserved to be saved tonight and he told Ryan Seacrest that there was one person who deserved it and probably would be surprised by that. Ryan Seacrest then asked if it was Lil and Simon Cowell told him we will have to see.

As the lights were dimmed for the last time tonight, Ryan Seacrest said that over 36 million people voted last night and this weekMatt was going to sing for his life, while Lil could return to her seat.

The crowd went crazy after he sang his song, yelling save, save, save and Simon Cowell then said that he doesn’t think that Matt has any chance of winning the competition, but they had made a decision and it was good news. He was safe!

Simon Cowell told the group that they shouldn’t be celebrating too quickly as next week two contestants would be going home and the other bad news was that next week is Disco week!
