Tonight on American Idol, the stakes have been doubled due to last week’s use of ‘the save’ by the judges, which means that this week on FOX, two contestants will be going home! Ryan Seacrest is introduced and says that the good news is that Matt Giraud is around for another week. Ryan introduces Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul, Kara DioGuardi, and Simon Cowell, and the Top 7. The disco night starts immediately with Lil Rounds singing a Chaka Khan song, I’m Every Woman!

Lil is wearing a black catsuit and has a long flowing hairstyle. She sings in an energetic manner, using the entire stage and interacting with the audience more than ever before. Randy says she got the party started, but it sounded ‘wild’ to him - didn’t really show her as an artist though. Kara says that all of America has been waiting for her to sing a song like that, but she’s not sure it was worth the wait. Paula speaks up and says that Lil is on complete vocal rest, so she applauds the effort. Simon notes that Lil looks sad. She says she had fun tonight. Simon says it’s the last week that they’ll see her - the song was very copycat. Lil tells Ryan she disagrees with the panel.

Kris Allen is up next on Idol. He admits he was a little worried about the disco genre, but chose the tune She Works Hard For the Money by Donna Summer. In simple t-shirt and jeans, Kris brings the song down from the original arrangement by accompanying himself on guitar, but also adds a few musicians to funk it up. Kara tells him he took a risk - and it paid off big time! Paula says it had a Santana feel to it - a perfect fit! Simon calls it original, well thought-out and a fantastic performance! Randy adds that Kris knows who he is - he comes out every week and shows it - he’s ready for the big time!

An Earth, Wind, and Fire song is next - September as sung by Danny Gokey on American Idol! Clad in jeans, black shirt, and black jacket, Danny delivers a feel good version of the popular disco tune. Randy says it really worked for him! Kara says she was worried about him on disco night - but he’s an incredible vocalist - another solid performance. Paula tells Danny he showed his brilliance, and that he has a sexy voice! Simon agrees with what everyone said, but says he didn’t get any ’star power’ from the performance - it was a bit awkward and clumsy!

Alison Iraheta is next with Hot Stuff by Donna Summer on Idol. She is in a black mini dress with silver sequins and black tights. Alison gives the expected raunchy and intense arrangement, making the audience roar! Randy says he didn’t love the arrangement, but he thinks she’s one of the best singers in the competition! Kara agrees about the arrangement, and says from the singing perspective it was a 9 or 10! Paula says the arrangement didn’t interfere with her authenticity - the last note was off the charts! Simon calls it a brilliant performance!

Ryan introduces Adam Lambert, who has chosen to perform If I Can’t Have You on American Idol’s disco week. Adam is wearing a suit and tie with a spiky hairstyle, and proceeds to croon his way to a standing ovation from some of the audience - and Paula. Randy says that at this point the contestants should be showing their range - he’s been doing it all along - he’s ready, and is the hot one tonight! Kara says it was his most memorable performance because of the emotion and connection. Paula tells him he’s fascinating and brilliant - and he will be in the finals. Simon says the vocals were immaculate - congratulations! Adam credits Michael Orland with the arrangement. Ryan notes that Adam was melting Paula into a ‘pool of Abdul’ during his performance!

Matt Giraud has chosen the metaphorical song Stayin’ Alive on American Idol. In a burgundy jacket, jeans, and a fedora, Matt delivers a fun and funky version of the disco song. Randy didn’t love the song choice or the arrangement, but tells Matt that he can really sing! Kara says Matt brought disco back! She adds that she liked to see him move - it was a good, solid performance. Paula says if this was bowling - it was a strike - he’s staying! Simon says he didn’t like that performance - it came over a bit desperate - and he didn’t think the vocals were great. The other judges disagree.

Anoop Desai is the final performer of the night on American Idol. He is singing Dim the Lights. Dressed in a light gray suit and a pink shirt, Anoop delivers a performance that is vocally strong, but somewhat corny. Randy says he can sing too - he’s happy to see the vocals. Kara liked the song choice - it sounded like it could be on the radio! Paula says he looks fantastic - and real men know how to wear pink! Simon Cowell completely disagrees - it was mediocre at best - a horrible version of the song - and his worst performance by a mile!
