Tonight on FOX’s American Idol, Ryan Seacrest says that the pressure is more intense than ever for the five remaining finalists! Ryan explains that they will have two phone numbers for each contest beginning tonight to make it easier to get through to vote! ‘Standards from the Rat Pack Era’ is tonight’s theme! The mentor for Rat Pack week was a surprise to the contestants - it turned out to be Oscar-winner Jamie Foxx, who is also a classically trained musician! Jamie tells the finalists all about the Rat Pack - they were singing a lifestyle!
Kris Allen is first up to sing on FOX, and he comes out in a suit to the delight of the female fans! Earlier, in practice, Jamie Foxx was impressed, saying Kris is a dude he would do a record with! Kris croons The Way You Look Tonight with just the right amount of spark, and ends the tune very nicely. Randy Jackson calls it his best performance to date! Kara DioGuardi notes that he has set the technical standard incredibly high. Paula Abdul says he’s transitioned from innocent boy to contemporary crooner. Simon Cowell isn’t quite as enthusiastic as the others, saying he liked it, but it wasn’t incredible.
Allison Iraheta is the only female left in the competition - and will be the next to perform on Idol tonight! Jamie coached Alison to let the love that flows from her family come through when she sings Someone To Watch Over Me. In a strapless cocktail dress with black bodice and black and white taffeta skirt, Allison takes the stage and delivers a smoky, jazz club version of the song in her trademark voice. Randy tells her she sang like Pink but with 9,000 more octaves - he loved it! Kara says she’s not nervous for her anymore - it was a deep, emotional rendition! Paula notes she has been waiting for her to approach a ballad - it was alluring, yet tender! Simon Cowell asks her if she thinks she can win - Allison says she thinks she can. Simon is worried she still doesn’t believe in herself enough. Kara tells Simon he is crazy!
Matt Giraud will be singing My Funny Valentine tonight on Idol. Jamie Foxx warned Matt in practice that it was a big song, and even had him change the key at the last minute! In a suit and fedora, Matt perches on a stool on the stage. He begins softly and slowly and builds into a stronger voice as he gets up and moves closer to the audience. His finish is great! Randy tells Matt that was one of the hardest songs to sing, but it was a little bit pitchy in spots. Kara didn’t feel an emotional connection. Paula loved the song and felt an emotional connection. Simon disagrees with Randy, sending the audience into screams - it was the only authentic song he heard tonight, and he thought Matt was brilliant!

Danny Gokey has decided to sing Come Rain Come Shine. Jamie Foxx watched him intently during practice, getting right in his ‘grill’ at times! With the trombone sliding the intro, Danny takes the American Idol stage in a purple suit and delivers another exemplary vocal performance that sends the crowd into a lather! Randy says he could have an album of songs like that - and win! Kara says she’s been missing the swagger from him all season - he had it tonight! Paula merely says, “Stellar.” Simon agrees with Kara - he had swagger and confidence - his performance was outstanding!
Adam Lambert is the last finalist to perform tonight on American Idol. Adam will be singing Feeling Good with a rock edge. Jamie Foxx applauded when Adam sung in practice! Adam takes the stage in a white satin suit, black shirt, and white tie and delivers a very edgy and theatrical version of the tune. Randy says it was a little too dramatic, but he’s in the zone. Kara says he is shocking in a good way! Paula tells Adam he makes her feel better than good! Simon says he gets the feeling from him that he wants to win - and that’s important!
Ryan Seacrest ends the show by telling viewers that tomorrow night American Idol will be live with Taylor Hicks, Natalie Cole and Jamie Foxx!
